Strawberry Guava Golden Fruit Ale. Fruity and bright, with distinct berry and tropical essences. For most, guava is not a common fruit, and the aroma it provides is very fragrant which complements the subtlety of strawberries perfectly. 17 IBUs.

This may seem counterintuitive, but thanks to my long hours at work & drinking less as a result, I am finding more beers in my backlog that I want to drink! Aldus is a small brewery in (relatively) nearby Hanover & I have been buying their bottles (gasp!) on occasion, usually to fill out a mixed sixer. It suddenly struck me that I have enough for a brewery horizontal, of which this will be the first.
From the Bottle (eek!): "Strawberry Guava Malt Beverage with Natural Flavors"; "Fruity and bright, with distinct berry and tropical essences. For most, guava is not a common fruit, and the aroma it provides is very fragrant which complements the subtlety of strawberries perfectly. A pleasant balance of acidity and residual sweetness make this beer very quaffable. This brew can make any sunset a little more dreamy."
Before Pop!ping off the cap, I noticed that there was a good bit of flocculate sitting on the bottle's kick/punt, so I did some in-bottle agitation before proceeding. My actions caused it to foam mightily, forming two-plus fingers of dense, foamy, rocky, tawny head with very good retention. Color was a turbid, murky Coppery-Brown (SRM = > 17, < 22), possibly attributable to my machinations. Nose was definitely strawberry up front, coupled with a fragrant guava, which was not at all unfamiliar to me. I subsisted primarily on FF&V (fresh fruit & vegetables) for a period of time during my Navy career & guava was a tropical staple. Mmm. Mouthfeel was medium. The taste was really interesting, opening with a strawberry sweetness that was quickly joined & overrun by a guava tanginess, not tartness. I have had guava jelly & jam before & I think that everyone has had strawberry preserves as a kid. I now wonder what a strawberry-guava jam might be like. If it is anything like this beer, it would be a winner! Man, this really captured the essence of both fruits, which is the idea behind the style. I found myself licking my lips after each sip to try and retain/recapture the taste. Mmm. Finish was semi-sweet with the guava slightly offsetting the strawberry. I would be quite happy to see them brew this one again! YMMV.
