I do not think anyone has ever accused Hop Butcher of being subtle ... and they won't start with this beer.
Pours a thick, viscous and oily black color. Thin dark brown colored head dissipates until absolutely no head remains on the beer.
Aroma has notes of roasted malts, fresh banana, cocoa, milk chocolate and vanilla. Its a dessert beer on the nose- lots of rich sweet aromas, but man that banana really shines through.
Taste follows the nose as expected - chocolate, vanilla, and fresh ripe banana dominate the palate up front before notes of roasted malts, cocoa, and some light roasty bitterness come through on the back end. This beer initially comes across as sweet, but not diabetes inducing ... until you get to the second 8 ounces and it starts to build on itself and become a lot to finish. Not a knock necessarily about the flavor as much as the serving size. Regardless it is on the sweet side and only gets sweeter.
Feel is pretty thick and full bodied. Filling is how I'd describe this beer. Mild carbonation.
Overall it accomplishes everything it set out to do - chocolate? check. banana? check. Its definitely a sipper, and one that I enjoyed, but didn't need a second.

Canned 2/17/21; drank 2/19/21 @ the Yarchives.
Black appearance.
A rough pour yielded a HUGE dark tan head; strong lace.
HUGE banana & mild milk chocolate notes in the nose.
Thick, creamy mouthfeel.
Strong banana & faint medium roast coffee flavors up front; nice milk chocolate notes on the finish. Almost no booze heat.
If you don't like chocolate covered bananas, steer the hell clear, but this was an enjoyable, over-the-top good time. I'd have another.
