this is a crazy series of beers, with all the fruit they use, they are just so intensely flavored. i like this one a lot, but i think i prefer the boysenberry on its own, without the blood orange. the blood orange is strong here in nose and taste, and it adds some additional acidity and sweetness at the same time, which almost makes this too much to drink more than a little bit of. its already quite sour, and there is already a real fruity sweetness, and this pushes it close to the line. there have been so many blood oranges in beers of all styles lately, that this opinion may just be a matter of personal preference at this point, but the fruit seems played out regardless of base beer type, it almost annoys me even though i like it, but thats my problem not a problem with the beer in any concrete respect. this seems a little lighter bodied and less dense than the others in the series, and the yeast seems to really like all the fruit, the sourness is well developed and there is a rustic funkiness too. i think they should start bottling these variants, i could see these beers doing well over time as the fruit continues to be consumed by the wild elements. very summery, very juicy, my lady loved it too, but for my money the straight up boysenberry edition of this is where its at!
