a delightful blackberry wild ale, that like the dead hand, also apparently uses the fruit from the lambic inspired series they just did. its second use fruit, which is a new concept to me, but these beers are both glorious. this isnt quite as intense on the fruit as the raspberry one, which really sings, but blackberries are harder to bring out in beer, and they sure are jammy in this one, super prominent as they go, and just a wonderful flavor leader in a rather nuanced brew. some bacterial tang to this, but the berries make it somewhat sweet, less sour or complex than a lot of their others, showing some nice mature funk too, but outrageously clean in the finish. how they develop this level of wild maturity seemingly so quickly is beyond me. there must be some older beer in the blend, although i have no information at all about that. beautiful violet purple shade, foamy headed yet relaxed looking. funky enough but with some citrus notes too, and brightly carbonated. not too acidic to be a session beer, and i find myself shaking my head after each sip, like how intense the fruit is for having already been used once blows my mind. i wonder why more breweries do not employ this technique. it also seems to be a great testament to the quality (and volume) of the fruit they use in these beers! i was late to jump on the bandwagon with these guys, too many mediocre beers among the gems, but i am getting increasingly high on all that they do, lately its been nothing but brilliance! this beer is awesome, hoping they bottle a few of these...

We love reviews (150 characters or more)! Check out: How to Review a Beer. You don't need to get fancy. Drop some thoughts on the beer's attributes (look, smell, taste, feel) plus your overall impression. Something that backs up your rating and helps others. Thanks!
