a barbara grape wild beer, a gorgeous bottle from these guys, who seem to keep getting better. ive liked all i have had from them lately, they seem to have really found their stride. this is basically perfectly clear on the pour, with a fizzy head at first but it sort of blows its load a little early in that regard, settling back to almost flat a bit too soon i think, i like the burst initially, but i wish it could be sustained a little longer here. the grape and the sourness hit me at the same moment in the nose, peach and apricot, strong white wine, bright minerals and acidity, some funky wood too, clean though, and really well refined, more so than many of their others. i love how forward the grape is in the flavor, really its light on the grain too, almost half beer half wine, which i think is delicate and awesome. i am surprised its as strong as it is, and how soft and new the wood tastes in something so mature form a yeast standpoint. elderflower and pear nuance, some sweetness from the grapes, strong white wine and champagne, and sweet oak too. this beer is awesome, i wish the carbonation lasted a little longer, but the maturity and use of fruit are both next level, lambic notes to the yeast, and a clean bright finish. worth the asking price and should cellar really well!
