so i had the original version of this, blend 001 i believe, the magnum bottling, 6.2% abv definitely different from what is listed here, from april 2018, a blend of three different vintages and dry hopped apparently, but i cannot add that as a new blend here to BA, since they are closed and thus new beers cannot be added and i guess nobody ever did with this one, so it will have to live here, but its assuredly not blend 004, positive, but need a place to review it, it deserves that. definitely drinks like old world gueuze at this point, really old, kind of forgot i had this bottle, broke it out for a special occasion and shared it with many friends, a lot of fun. holding up supremely well and this is one of the black project bottles im glad i held on to, they didnt all age well, but this one did, and if its the last beer i ever have from them, i think ill be okay with it, a hit or miss flash in the pan operation that could be great or awful and generated a lot of attention, some good, some bad, rip. anyway, this is fire, good enough to have come from belgium, hoppy i guess, but not in like a modern fresh way that makes it more american or anything, something very cool overall, and something special about opening up a magnum, really special beer, especially being this old. its got some bubbles, some fizz, enough funk to aromatically fill a warehouse space, a peachy orangey rusty brassy color with some shine but also some sediment, quite a lot in the bottom few inches of the bottle, maybe more than there should be, a portion of this is undrinkable really, but the rest of it slaps, and i love the clearer top part, some of it is crystal clear, most of it a little cloudy. mouthwatering and sour, but also super funky, definite lambic character, isovaleric, green glass weirdness, the right amount of oxidation, white wine, dried flowers, stinky weed, lemon and meyer lemon, even tangerine, heavy minerality, cut grass, some bitterness, cedar wood, sauternes, dried apricot, lots going on and its all there in the flavor, decent acidity, even downright sour, but enough funk that its wild and interesting to me, love the ferment, time has been good to it, fruity to me, herbal from the hops as well, still some body and some wheat intact in here after all this time, champagne and white grapefruit and lemongrass, way complex and it warms up well. a little is plenty so fun to be sharing this widely, occasion worthy and hopefully a lasting memory about one of the things these guys got right. really dug it, super wild and funky, id buy another one if they were still out there to be had. this was cool...
