a tasty clean rye saison, just a bit more interesting than the ardent core saison that they also had on while we were here, same yeast strain and finishing dryness it seems, but with the earthy rye malt and the slightly higher abv, it just seems like there is a bit more going on with this one, like it holds the hops better at the end, and like the rye and the hops have some cool synergistic thing going on, yet the beer is still super drinkable as well, very enjoyable brew here. light copper to rust colored, just a few shades past brassy looking, with a snow white head from the tap and high carbonation visible, replenishing it each time it starts to fade. aroma and flavor of peppery rye, a toasted sweetness, crazy freshness to the malt, and maybe a bit of a sturdier hopping than the ardent core, although the varietals seem similar, faint lime and dried grass like saaz contributes, but a slightly higher alpha element as well. this is cool beer, rustic without being funky, but maybe a little too clean for my personal preferences, kind of belgian tasting, not as farmy and agricultural and old worldy as i like in the style, but its a very well made beer nevertheless. all the beers in here were excellent.

Draft at Marshall Stack, NYC.

A- A slightly hazy gold pour from the taps to a pint glass. A small foamy cap forms to about 1cm high with fair retention. Webs of lace decorate the glass in plentiful amounts from small ring that remains once the head falls.

S- Lemony citrus and yeast spice. Some whole grain crust. Pear esters are rather strong and overall the sense of pale fruits is strong with this one.

T- Coriander, pear and lemony citrus oils. Cooking herbs almost like a weak thyme or something and pink peppercorns coming in secondary. Rye is a tad spicy and has that long chain sweetness; just the signature rye brew flavor. Fairly sweet for the style with the pale fruit juice esters big time. Feels too estery.

MF- Rye gives a nice silky smoothness. Overall it is a medium body. High end carbonation but it feels padded down on the palate.

Sweet and a bit too fruity to be honest. The pale fruits and spiciness clash a bit too much and take away from that refreshing, crisp and clean experience one expects in the style. I am also not sure the rye does much good here besides adding some silkiness in the body.

A: The beer is somewhat hazy yellow in color and has a slight amount of visible carbonation. It poured with a thin white collar around the edge of the glass.
S: Light aromas of floral hops, herbal hops, and rye are present in the nose.
T: The taste follows the smell and has additional hints of grainy malts and yeast. Only faint amounts of spiciness from the rye are present.
M: It feels light- to medium-bodied on the palate and has a low to moderate amount of carbonation.
O: This beer isn't that spicy compared to other rye beers, but is easy to drink. It tastes more like a saison with some hints of rye.

On tap at LIC Beer Project 9/19/15. Pours the color of Champagne with a thin, quickly dissapating head. Taste is rye, super-clean with a slighly sourdough finish.
