This golden ale is brewed with a Kolsch yeast and has a gentle malt forward flavor. In the aroma there are hints of pear and floral notes from the German Hallertau Mittelfrüh hops. Very traditional in style, this beer was lagered to achieve a bright and clean finish.

Pours a clear golden straw color with an immediately disappearing white head that left no lacing, lots of fine effervescent bubbles. Smells and tastes of cereal grains, grapes, yeast, pears and floral notes. Light bodied, well carbonated, thin mouth feel.

On-draught at a crappy overpriced bar in the Upper West Side of Manhattan.
Tainted by diacetyl. Way off the intended style. The kind of fare that has Germans laughing at American brewing. This would get poured out by bar patrons in Koln.

Got this at LIC when it was released a few months back and finally got around to it tonight. Though I'm not a huge fan of this style, this was a nice beer that went down easily without feeling too light or watered-down. All of the typical traits of a Kolsch were here and this was a welcome change from the IPA's that I was accustomed to having from these guys!
The pour to this was what one would expect for a beer of this style - golden, opaque, and with plenty of head. Not a strong aroma to this but there was enough grape, pear, and cereal grain to indicate what kind of beer this was. Thin, light, and sour, this felt and tasted like a Kolsch with lots of sour grass, straw, grape, crackers, and faint floral notes. A good amount of carbonation kept this light. The bread and cracker-like malt came through in the aftertaste as this turned chewy in the back half though it never felt thick or artificial in any way.
If you like session beers, then you've found your match here as the alcohol was quite light and even less discernible to the taste. The white wine-like aspects of this beer were present but there was enough body and a recessed sourness that allowed this beer to rise a bit above what a Kolsch would normally be characterized as. This was as unassuming and enjoyable as something could get without becoming a cliche, which would be much easier said than done. Nice job by LIC for brewing a versatile beer that could be savored year-round!

Tall can purchased at Brew and Co. in Bedford, NY
Pours lightly hazed, lighter straw, minor head and just a few spots lacing
Clean and lightly grassy nose with some crackers.
On the lighter side, both body and flavor wise...clean and easy drinking...as per the style.
Worthy if unexciting brew...quality sessioner and likely would go great with a variety of types of food.
