I'm actually getting fond of doing these old ass reviews. At the time, didn't think much of it, but now looking back, holy moly there were a lot of black ales at festivals back then, but the sheer amount at a fresh hop festival, that is just a big "wow" for me.
Black ale pours black. 1/2" light brown head, good retention. More roast than hops in the nose, but beyond the burnt malt, there is a little bit of wet Cascades that barely give the beer a light grapefruit citrus rind and pine needle smells. Very feint.
Taste, I dunno, its a black ale with more roasted malt in the taste than hops. And its a wet hop beer. Doesn't make sense to me to make a wet hop beer that isn't a showcase for wet hops. I literally just reviewed another Cascade beer from the same festival (Sierra Nevada Single, Fresh, Wet & Wild Ale) and whereas that had some expressive nuance, this didn't really make sense at any level, existential break downs included. 80% roasted malt, 20% hints of Cascade rind and pine drop. Forgettable but for its flawed recipe.

pours a deep black with mildly think light tan head
nose- not too overwhelming, but lots going on here. fresh and resiny, pine, dark malt, faint coffee and chocolate, citrus rind
taste- wow, real nice. lush wet hops come make their presence known with resiny citrus and pine, dark malt with coffee, finishes with a wave of dry roasted malt and a slight lingering fruitiness
feel- resinous, sticky, drinkable, moderately thick
really enjoyed this. Black Ales/black IPAs are hit and miss for me, I'm not exremely familiar with them, but I love fresh hopped beers and I thought this turned out real nice
