Bottle pour for New Brew Thursday's 3rd Anniversary event held at Beachwood BBQ & Brewing in Long Beach, CA.

Pours a clear orange with a foamy khaki head that settles to a film on top of the beer. Small dots of lace form around the glass on the drink down. Smell is of malt, citrus zest, and herbal hop aromas. Taste is much the same with a citrus zest flavor on the finish. There is a medium amount of hop bitterness on the palate with each sip. This beer has a good level of carbonation with a crisp mouthfeel. Overall, this is a pretty good beer with nice hoppy aromas and flavors.

22 oz bottle. First danger sign is label describing this as an "Imperial Double Red Ale". Oh boy, here we go.

Gentle pour produces a massive foamy yellowish tan head that consumes the glass and leaves a few fingers of a clear, dark amber body. Aroma is a like a Rogue beer. Who cares? Caramel and bready malt, light pine hops, more malt, then some more malt, bubblegum and bread. Surprisingly, flavor is very sweet. (Wait, that's not what a surprise is?) Chewy and caramel, syrupy and sticky, with a surprising amount of resiny bitterness in the finish and some rye bready spice, but this is beyond saving. Rather thick and chewy body, over carbonated and an opposite of delightful cloying finish. I thoroughly enjoyed the experience of this beer.
