On draught at the brewery. A mahogany colored pour with a thin, light mocha-colored head that dissipated quickly leaving a thin coating of spotty lacing. There is a strong scent of bourbon on the nose, along with roasted malt and red wine. The taste opens with a lot of sweetness from the apple brandy and the red wine barrels. There are strong dark fruit notes. As the glass warms I can taste the base stout: chocolate with roasted malt and fresh coffee. It's like drinking two distinct beers. There is very little bitterness. The feel is a little thin for a big stout with low carbonation, and it has a noticeable, warming 10.5% ABV. Overall, this is an ambitious stout with a lot going on. It's a little sweet for my taste but I appreciate Magnify's effort in brewing it.
Update: The 2020 release is significantly better tasting and I've revised my rating accordingly.
