Flexitarian - Barrel-Aged

Reviewed 10 days after bottle release. Poured at approximately 58 degrees into a stout glass. It pours a very dark walnut - nearly black - but with dark cola hues at the bottom of the glass. It pours without any head or lacing, which is somewhat disconcerting, and there are sediment "floaties." It has a fragrant aroma of cocoa, caramel, butterscotch, shaved coconut, and freshly brewed coffee. There isn't much barrel in the nose. The taste, however, is outstanding: freshly-brewed coffee and sweet milk chocolate up front. The bourbon is present throughout but it's rather delicate at first. However, at the finish you can really taste and feel it. There is also a hint of pepper and bitterness at the finish. The mouth feel is creamy and viscous with low to moderate carbonation, and there is no escaping the 13.6% ABV. This is a sipper. Overall, the BA version of Flexitarian is excellent - other than its appearance. I guess there isn't much to do about that given the high ABV. It will be interesting to see how this Stout ages.
