Poured from 440mL can into my Bierwerk Züri becher. Best by 11/1/26.
Appearance: pale golden hue with a bit of haze and a thick head of frothy ivory foam atop.
Smell: well, there's cucumber for sure. I'm not really familiar with mate, but there's a pleasant earthiness here. The overall effect on the aroma is like "what if a chili beer had zero heat". It's decent.
Taste: the "chili beer without heat" thing is even more present in the flavor. That sort of almost-sour melon-rind-ey cucumber flavor needs a little more sweetness or malt backbone than is on offer here. Again, it's not bad, but most of the points in its favor come from the fact that it is novel.
Mouthfeel: medium body with a decent carbonation and creaminess.
Overall: I'm not likely to ever come back to this particular well, but this is still an interesting beer to have tried. People that like cucumber in beer, or even people who like chili beers, may want to give it a try.
