Prairie Rue is a collaboration that was born out of years of admiration and friendship between the founders of Prairie Artisan Ales and The Bruery & Bruery Terreux. Using hops chosen for their lemony and floral aroma plus 100% Munich malt, this farmhouse ale was barrel-fermented in oak with several strains of brettanomyces, revealing pleasant wafts of prairie grains, orange blossom honey and lemony-floral funk. A refreshing, crisp bready backbone is complimented by a balance of citrus hop flavors and woody, earthy flavors and spice characters. When thinking about this beer, it’s hard to say whether it’s more of a Prairie beer or a Bruery Terreux beer. And that’s exactly how collaborations should be.

While the admiration among the Bruery and Prairie brewing teams seem equal, its the Placentia brewery that takes control of their collaboration ale as the rusticity of toasted malt, peppery spice and somber fruit take command.
Richly amber and with a bready haze, the beer's appearance is of winter's honey with a golden biscuit hue. Swirling with a sepia stain, its head pulls the scent of date, almond and toast with a peppercorn and orange peel balance. Its taste is steely sweet with caramel, peanut skin, toast and cooked honey.
With sweetness fading swiftly, the toasty edges of malt steal the show. Toasty, nutty, savory and lightly of cola, the beer's taste quickly trends fruity and spicy. Apple, date, fig and sultan play moderately on the palate and patiently awaits the balance of cinnamon, peppercorn, curacao liquor and red wine.
Medium-bodied through and through, the farmhouse saison trends robust in its toasty grain profile but even keel with a peppery finish, the beer's playful acidity trends wine-like for a bitter, earthy and straw-like earthiness. Trailing with a short toast, pepper and wine aftertaste, the beer begs for mussels and barbecue.

A: Poured into a Duvel tulip to a deep bronze topped by three fingers of dense off white head that retains well and leaves decent lacing
S: Smells of citrus and spicy yeast with a little hint of funk
T: Taste is a little citrus, some nice malty notes, slight funk with just a hint of tartness and some spice. This one is just a little chalky as well. Swallow is more chalky notes with more spice and some grassy notes with hints of lingering funk.
M: This beer has a medium mouthfeel with adequate carbonation and a drying finish
O: Overall this one is pretty good. It has a lot of those classic saison notes with some slight kinks with the light funk and hints of sourness. It'll be interesting to see how this one changes over time.

L - Pours an amber body with tinges of orange on the edges. The one and a half finger head is light tan and has staying powering. Not much lacing.
S - The nose has a sweet candied orange aspect. Citrus elements, hay and pear. Not overly funky. I know it's not typical of the style, but I like it.
T - Muddled fruit citrus flavors. Oak peaks through with some light funk and light sweetness.
F - Medium bodied and medium carbonation. It has a wet finish.
O - With these two breweries I was expecting more.

Pours a slightly orange-golden yellow color with a fluffy white head. Aromas and flavors of pears, hay, grass, and some barnyard funk on the back end. Medium body and carbonation. Very nice collaboration here.
