Pours a mostly clear amber and caramel color with visible carbonation. A bubbly head quickly dissipates.

The nose is funky with rustic notes of oak and grape must. Aromas of sourdough, lemon and kiwi evoke tartness, while notes of bready malt and floral spices add sweetness.

Moderately sour with funky and rustic notes of earth and oak, and tart fruit. Flavors of red and green grape, lemon, lime and kiwi amidst a doughy and bready malt base. Well balanced with a dryness in the palate and peppery and floral spices.

Medium bodied with a dry and moderately acidic finish. The mouthfeel is vinous as well as slightly slick. The carbonation is lively.

Fantastic Farmhouse Ale with complex but easy drinking flavors. The addition of grapes and oaky flavors make it especially appealing to wine drinkers.

Another from the tailgate in September 2019. This was the final beer before we walked in. Pours the color of amber. Did not expect that from a saison. 7 months aged in an oak foeder, shit, this looks like it was aged in a redwood foeder (wheels turning, light bulb moment).

Aroma gets the grape wine thing going, smells just as much like a wild ale or even a lager yeast as it does a saison, just more wild culture sourness perceptible than anything else. Not bad, just, you know, what it is.

Taste brings more lemon than you would expect on the amber color scheme. Firmly falling into wild ale territory. Surprised the alcohol is this high, can't tell, doesn't distract. A bit acidic, but again, not problematic. Not getting any funky notes. Drinks cleaner than that. More grape must than funk. Seems to get more coherent the more you drink it.
Drinks lighter than its appearance, which seems to vary greatly looking at some pictures of it. Its a good beer and was a fun drink even if it wasn't what I expected.

There doesn't appear to be a date listed on the corked and caged bottle. It does state that it is "8.1% ALC. BY VOL."

Appearance: The body of the beer is a red-orange color with a slight purple hue. It has tons of visible carbonation and decent clarity, with only a slight haze. The head is medium-sized, foamy, and white with a subtle pink tint. It has good retention as it fades to a short cap over the body.

Aroma: It starts out with a bit of a urea and raspberry scent. There is a hint of straw in the back.

Taste: Up front there is a flavor of white pepper and raspberry with a hint of lemon. The middle of the beer amplifies the previous flavors but adds on some wheat and a hint of alcohol. Only a slight bit of flavor lingers in the finish and it gives just a very tiny hint of what tastes like grape skin.

Mouthfeel: It has a medium-light body to start, and it tapers off to a dry finish. The beer is bubbly and effervescent which accentuates the flavors. It is very pleasant to drink.

Overall: The label on the beer states that this is a "SAISON ALE BREWED WITH GRAPES AGED IN FRENCH OAK BARRELS." The French Oak character seems to be missing from the beer, but it does present an actual grape character, that comes across as grape skins, in the aftertaste of the beer. Quite frankly the beer is fantastic and has loads of character that can't simply be described in the aroma or flavor. It has this freshness to it that is great, especially when you consider that the label states that they were "aging it in French oak wine barrels for 9 months." The highlight of the beer is the brightness and freshness of the beer in how clean it delivers its flavors. Obviously with a Wild Ale or a Saison the quality can vary from year to year, but I would highly recommend this year's iteration (purchased in 2020) based on what I've tasted. I would drink it again.

A: Poured into a Duvel tulip to a bright and clear golden yellow which is nearly straw colored. The beer is topped by a dense and slightly rocky finger of white head which fades quickly to a collar around the edge of the glass with minimal lacing
S: Smells of oak, orchard fruits, peppery spice, and a hint of tartness. There's also some slight grape must going on as well.
T: Taste is a nice tartness up front that builds to be slightly lemony. Quite clean with some orchard fruits and grape flavors intermingling with a hint of berries. Nice oak notes throughout along with a hint of funk. On the swallow that lemony tartness is there along with the orchard fruits, a hint of leathery funk and some lingering oak.
M: This beer has a body which is on the lighter side of medium with an ever so slight syrupy feel on the palate. Carbonation is effervescent and more than adequate for the style while the beer has a drying finish from the acidity.
O: Overall this is a really interesting beer. The blend doesn't taste like it works well at first but the more you drink it the more the flavors seem to meld and blend together. Really interesting and well worth a try.

1 Pint can, Packaged on 26/03/2019, Poured into a tulip glass.
Look: Pours an orangey gold, about 1.5 cm of fizzy head quickly subsides to nothing. Nice colour, but poor head retention.
Smell: Little funk, a tartness in there, maybe a little lemon, touch of sweetness, a little spice underneath but pretty faintly.
Taste: Sourness, lemon, a bit of oakiness, there is a touch of grape in there, vinous, and some sweetness underneath.
Feel: It's a little thin, only the slightest touch of carbonation, the sourness in there really makes the mouth water though.
Overall: I liked it. I would have preferred a bit more carbonation, but I enjoyed the flavours.

Pours a golden crystal clear. Mixed funk on the nose. This kind of has a wit under tone. Tart and balanced acidity. Effervescent. This is a really nice mixed culture saison.

Type: 750-ml. bottle
Glass: Monks House of Ale 12-oz. tulip
From: The Bruery in Placentia, Calif.
Price: $17.50 (averaged out the four bottles I purchased for $70)
Purchased: N/A; Received on June 2, 2019
Consumed: Aug. 9, 2019
Reviewed as: Saison/Farmhouse Ale
Misc.: Bottled on March 21, 2019 at 1:20 p.m. PT

Got this as part of the quarterly packages I purchased from The Bruery only because I forgot to cancel my previous quarter membership. And then The Bruery would not take the beer back because of terms and conditions (maybe because they couldn’t get rid of the beer?). Anyway, this was a collab with Dogfish Head, not my favorite brewery by any stretch of the imagination. Online description read, “This ridiculous mixed culture saison ale was made by blending Mr. and Mrs. This Is Ridiculous. The tart and funky union between Dogfish Head and Bruery Terreux was aged in a French oak foeder for seven months.”

Poured a light amber semi-clear color with 2-to-3 fingers of frothy white head. Could see a few bubbles underneath. Good spotty lacing. Outstanding retention. (Sight - 4.00)

Smelled green apple, pear, lemon tart, barnyard funk, basement, green grape, Belgian spice, cloves, passion fruit, spoiled plain yogurt and oaky foeder notes. (Smell - 4.00)

Taste was not as good as the nose. In order got pear, sour green apple, lemon tart, lime, barnyard funk, Belgian peppery spice, green grape, wet basement, light cloves, spoiled plain yogurt, passion fruit and oaky barrel. (Taste - 3.75)

Medium body. Oily texture. Lively carbonation. Dry, tart finish. (Feel - 3.75)

A pretty good beer, but something that I would seek out to have again. (Overall - 3.75)

Canned 03/26/19.

Pours and orange-hued gold, hazy but not opaque. The carb is thin and lightly frothy, with mild amounts of residual lace.

Lots of citrus and vinous quality on the nose: mild barnyard and Belgian yeast. Undertones of lemon candy, passionfruit, and white grape must.

Flavors similar to the nose, lightly tart and funky. Flavors of wet hay, Belgian yeast, and a familiar saison clove-forward funk. The foeders work nicely here, more on the back but giving a nice oakey quality to balance a very present white wine flavor on the backbone.

Light-bodied, with a medium sharp carbonation and a tartness throughout. Finishes with a mild tannic dryness.
