A really great stout if you like dark roasted coffee, but I don't, and I feel like the espresso and beans way overwhelmed any barrel presence such that this beer was completely skewed to coffee lovers looking for an ABV / caffeine high...(!)

The beer pours a nice dark brown foamy head that dissipates quickly while the beer itself is absolutely delicious looking. It has a deep dark coffee black note alongside a nice slightly viscous and milky texture to it.
The smell is delicious. It starts off with a nice sharp roasted coffee and a moderate note of star anise. The chocolate comes out more so in the finish with a good bourbon note to accompany it. Overall, it strongly resembles a good fudge brownie made with alcohol.
The taste is delicious and a wonderful mix of various notes that come together to create a profound and indulgent experience. The main notes through it all have a delicious mixture of chocolate and roasted coffee with a mix of anise to it. The main notes that come out first is a mix of the chocolate and coffee like a brownie. The finish has more of a coffee and anise notes to it. The bourbon seems to be overwhelmed by these notes and the only that comes out from that is a brief vanilla in the beginning and a spice alcohol note in the finish.
The feel is good. It has a milky feel to it and a dry and bitter finish. It is very drinkable. The carbonation is fairly light though.
Overall, this was fantastic beer and one of The Veil's best.

Oohhh this is fantastic. Viscous jet black pour with a brown ring. Smell is dark coffee roast with chocolate fudge, deep and rich bourbon, molasses, dark fruit, and slight oak. Taste is an amazing combination of patented flavors, but done so deeply and richly. The coffee, bourbon, wood, fudge, vanilla, molasses, dark fruit, tobacco, and anise. Heavy, thick like brownie batter, and super rich. Right amounts of booze, sweetness, and viscosity. Incredibly smooth and warm. First beer by the veil, immediately googling how far richmond is!
