Poured from 16oz can into a dimpled mug. Canned 8/29/23.
Appearance: light golden hue with a light-to-moderate haze and initially four whole fingers of ivory foam. This bad boy is can-conditioned, and evidently the conditioning was successful!
Smell: there’s a nice, classic, slightly-smooth, slightly-piquant farmhouse aroma here, with kind of a grassy/melon kind of hop aroma layered on top. I’m not at all familiar with Anchovy hops, so I don’t really know what to expect here. But — I do seem to like it!
Taste: definitely a saison flavor, more of a French saison with a little sharpness to it, which makes the flavor seem a lot more earthy than the aroma. Hints of melon are still here, which, again, contribute to the earthiness. It’s not bad, and it’s certainly interesting, but it’s perhaps not my favorite saison.
Mouthfeel: light body but with a big carbonation from the can conditioning. I don’t feel like I see too many can-conditioned beers; I like that they’re doing this, and it definitely adds something.
Overall: like I said, this isn’t my favorite beer out there. But I applaud a lot of the unusual things going on in this beer. It’s perhaps not 100% successful, but A for effort.
