Coelia (pronounced “Seel-YA") is the name of our Mermaid - an homage to the numerous Mermaid statues seen throughout Norfolk, the city of Mermaids.

Our American Wheat Beer has gentle hints of lemon, and a sensible amount of rosemary - resulting in a balanced, easy drinking, all-season beer

A: The beer is hazy yellow in color and has some hues of amber. It poured with just a narrow collar of white bubbles around the edge of the glass.
S: Light aromas of rosemary and wheat are present in the nose.
T: The taste follows the smell and has a bit stronger flavors of wheat with notes of rosemary and hints of lemon.
M: It feels a bit more than light-bodied on the palate with a moderate amount of carbonation.
O: This beer is very easy to drink but isn't especially flavorful - it would have been nicer if the rosemary and lemon were a little more prominent.

Coelia wheat ale 5.9% ABV Coelacanth Brewing Company
Look: Straw colored with some haze to it, white bubbly head
Smell: spice, wheat, grain
Taste: spicey, sour, dry sharp finish
Feel: medium body
Overall: The Coelia wheat beer is a nice refreshing beer, but the rosemary that it is brewed with did not shine through for me as I sipped this brew. It has nice sweet, sour lemon and some non-distintive spice notes that make it a highly flavorful and refreshing ale. I would certainly have it if it was available while out somewhere, but I wouldn't seek it out.

L) Pours a lovely, slightly haze straw/honey color. Minimal lacing, but a decent head.

S) The lemon grass and some bright spice dominates the nose. There are some lovely herbacious notes from the rosemary creating a harmonious and rustic smell.

T) The taste really does contain everything present in the nose, with a dry finish accentuated by a lovely and slightly spicy hop character. The light sweetness from the malt does wonders to round out this spritzy profile.

F) The beer is very light and effervescent. Very good carbonation for the style. A pleasure to sip.

O) I really enjoy this beer. It checks off most of the things I look for in American Wheats. It pours with significant amounts of sediment, but that isn't unacceptable for the style.

Coelacanth Brewing "Coelia"
$3/5 oz. on tap at the brewery on 17 June 2017

Notes: Rosemary Wheat, 5.9% ABV. Hazy deep gold body beneath a bright white head that displays average retention and lacing. The aroma expresses raw grain and mineral, as well as something that's perhaps vegetal, not in a bad way, but it doesn't come off as rosemary. The flavor delivers wheat, lemon with a subtle tartness, raw grain, herbs, and more of that vegetal character that I'm thinking of as being like a tomato plant. A median bitterness balances it and it finishes mainly dry with some wheat malt lingering. Medium bodied with a moderate carbonation.

Poured from can into a pint glass.

Appearance: Hazy golden with a thick white head.

Smell: Light hops, citrus, and rosemary.

Mouthfeel/Taste: Smooth light bodied. Taste of grassy tones and rosemary.

Overall: Excellent beer. I would have this one again.

Cloudy bright yellow-pale gold with minimal head and average carbonation. Aromas of light lemon, honey and a bit of malt. Taste is light and fairly crisp with notes of light spice, a weird kind of "off" malt flavor and some lemon. Finish is very light and a bit crisp. A very light bitterness on the end and overall, even though it is a wheat, it seems to be missing something, maybe a bit of complexity

Poured a slightly cloudy gold body with bit of head and lace. Strong floral and spicy notes in aroma more so than citric/lemon or yeast/wheat notes. Interesting beer as it has a smooth, fuller body and hint of wheat twang and bubblegum yeast sweetness that is balanced with floral sweetness (assume the rosemary) and a spicy crispness that leads to a sharp finish. Definitely a beer that could be considered an acquired taste but if you like it then it's an easy drinking session beer.
