Threesome Ale - Hemp, hibiscus and honey. The almondesque, herbal character of hemp balances a seductive and tart scarlet hibiscus, complemented with Cowichan Valley honey.

Appearance: Poured into a tulip glass. Gorgeous (almost clear) strawberry red with hints of amber in thinner parts of the glass. Drank this in the sunshine so its colour and cast were quite exquisite. Loose and froth slightly pink head with great retention and has an ok lacing at the beginning and plenty of surface foam remains quite some time after the head blows off.

Aromatics: Fresh, sweet, and fruity (especially strawberry and honey dew melon), slight kisses of the floral thanks to the hibiscus. Whiffs of nutty leafs intermingle near the end. And the sweetness of the honey shines above the malts very nicely.

Taste: In line with its eye and nose - sweet and tangy, again strawberry comes to mind, you can also taste a slight nuttiness from the hemp and sweetness of the honey doesn’t contrast too much with the slight bitter you get in the hops. Rather subdued in the bitterness department actually, and borderlines on tasting like a light wine in terms of flavour engagement.

Mouth: Has the start of a nice lightweight, but ends somewhere in the middle as it warms up in the mouth. The carbonation is very light once it has had a chance to breathe and gives it just enough pop to keep it crisp and clean.

Overall: It is a very mellow combination, executed very nicely. It’s a winner for me. I thoroughly enjoyed it, and I think its best for summer, hot days and yard work would be great for enjoying a threesome of this one.

Pairing: I’m not sure where I’d put this in amongst my eating choices, something tells me SIMPLE and maybe a little salty to engage with the sweetness so maybe a nice grilled cheese sandwich - use a butter with a sprinkle of pink salt mixed in; sourdough bread - not cut too thick; and old cheddar gourmet cheese; finish it off with maybe a small dill pickle or two on the side.
