Collaboration with Pure Project Brewing.

You know the saying. Brewing is both an art and a science. So when two breweries collaborate on one beer release, that fine line between science and art becomes remarkably murky. Each crew pours their own style into the recipe until it represents their shared vision. The resulting beer alludes to both breweries, and might just taste downright poetic. Murky Poetry is a Hazy IPA brewed with the community focused IPA masterminds over at Pure Project. Amarillo, Citra, Sabro and Motueka hops impart notes of guava, orange and fruit punch. Oats and wheat give the beer a soft, pillowy mouthfeel. As for the art of drinking the beer? That’s where you come in, and we’re pretty sure you’ve got that down to a science.

Had heard about this one before, but this was the first time I saw it in stores and I picked it up. Back of the can read, “You know the saying. Brewing is both an art and a science. Poured a medium yellow-to-gold murky color with two fingers of frothy white head. Could see some bubble streams coming up along the sides of the glass. Excellent spiderweb lacing. Good retention. (Sight - 4.25)

Smelled big Citra and Sabro, and Amarillo. Specifically tangerine, floral, passion fruit, fruit punch, guava, peach, stone fruit, grapefruit and light coconut. Just as good out of the can. Lovely on the nose. (Smell - 4.25)

Taste followed the nose for the most part. Got sharp Citra, Sabro (it’s good, Sam), Amarillo and then Motueka. Also tangerine, grapefruit, passion fruit, fruit punch, floral, stone fruit, guava, peach, cedar and pine. (Taste - 4.25)

Medium body. Oily texture. Lively carbonation. Long, juicy finish. (Feel - 4.25)

Just an excellent beer and I probably underrated this overall. (Overall - 4.25)

Appearance - Pours murky and mellow orange in color with a white, frothy finger width head. Fair retention before settling to a thin, broken layer of suds across the top. Lacing consists of thin, broken sheeting, some lines and small spotting.

Smell - Juicy and with a fair bit of oat in the aroma. Citrus and pineapple. Hint of mango or guava.

Taste - Getting tangy pineapple and tangerine juiciness with a mellowing guava character. Really nice. Aftertaste nips at the tongue with that juicy pineapple and tangerine bite, but doesn't overdo it.

Mouthfeel - Medium-bodied, with low-to-fair carbonation. Smooth, creamy texture. Really smooth. Great, refreshing finish.

Overall - This is a damn good hazy IPA. A 4-pack purchase may be a in my near future.

Cloudy yellow-orange with two fat fingers of yellowed head. Spotty, soapy lacing. Delicate clementine-like citrus with a little white pepper. Light taste includes delicate citrus, pepper, dull grapefruit pith bitterness and mineral water. Light creaminess in the feel with some prickly carbonation. Nice, drinkable, well-balanced beer. Sort of gives an APA impression.
