473 mL can from the LCBO; coded XX and served slightly chilled.
Pours a foggy pale pink colour, generating less than a finger of soapy white head that sizzles off within sixty seconds or so; a tight, creamy collar and filmy cap remain, alongside a modest swath of lace. It smells like guava nectar, with lesser notes of lime candy, watermelon freezie and green apple. Very saccharine, even for a fruit beer, but it's not without its charms.
Its flavours are similarly sweet, but not cloyingly so: guava remains the star, supported by notes of lime candy and watermelon Jolly Rancher. There's a hint of something grainy; the only remotely beer-like aspect of this radler. Finishes a little sweet, with lingering hints of lime-ade and guava nectar. Light in body, with crisp carbonation and a creamy, frothy mouthfeel reminiscent of fountain soda. This has real potential as a thirst quenching summer afternoon swigger.
Final Grade: 3.37, a B-. Waterloo's Guava Lime Radler is practically adjacent to coolers and/or malternatives, with its light, sugary, mildly refreshing feel largely masking the fact that it's technically a beer. Despite that fact, I liked this more than many of Waterloo's other radlers, and would not dismiss the possibility of revisiting it a couple of times this summer. Try it for yourself.
