To me this tastes more like a black lager or maybe a less sweet brown ale. Pours medium brown. Smells very malty. Slightly sweet & definitely not bitter. Clean finish. Maybe I just don't know what an "extra special bitter ale" should taste like, but this seems awfully sweet to me for something described as bitter. That said, it's pleasant enough. Just not that impressive.
