This smoked-out version of our Imperial Breakfast Stout was brewed with German beech smoked malt, and fermented with loads of maple syrup & conditioned on whole bean Sumatra from our friends at Clutch Coffee.

Very dark appearance with slight tan head that dissipates quickly. Aroma is a mild peated. That’s is also a mild peated malt that need a stronger flavor.

On tap at brewery:
Haven’t had the base beer, but my glass holds what I’d expect from the base, with only the lightest of smoke hints.
Almost pitch black with a modest light tan ring with a spot or two of lacing here and there.
Deep roasted malt that leans chocolate cake/brownie with the maple sweetness. Maple is evident but not overpowering. Almost burnt dark brown sugar at the edges.
Taste brings more maple, but nicely integrated. Some marshmallow, chocolate cola, and a good dose of dark toast coffee in back. A tad heavy but only moderately heavy.
Only question is where’s the smoke. If I search fir it, I think there’s some near the back of the taste, though it could also be something slightly metallic. There’s so much else going on, though. If this isn’t a mistaken pour, they seemingly didn’t bring the smoke to counter the base beer’s core. Or maybe the base beer is crazy flavored and this smoked version brings a roasted malt aspect that is missing.
