Great Notion is the best Brew Pub in Portland (our opinion of course). This brew was dropped early Tuesday and we picked up a four pack of cans Friday night (unusual for GN, they usually sell out the day the drop). It was cool enough and we were excited for a pour and so when we got it home with it (thanks COVID) we poured into an imperial pint glass.
Look: pitch black and thick with a finger size head and no lacing as we drank
Smell: roast, dark chocolate (as it warms it is more milk chocolate), booze, a bit of vanilla as it warms
Taste: roast on the front end with sweetness, mid taste we get booze and roast, trailing notes are light chocolate flavors and a hint of vanilla in the nose
Feel: full and sticky, a little tickle of carbonation but dissipates quickly, the mouthfeel sticks with you
Bren is a choco-holic and so we were hoping for real chocolate. The roast and booze overlay the chocolate profile. If you have the GN app they have the chocolate profile at a five and it is more like a 3.5. They have roast at a 4 and it is more like a 4.5. They have vanilla at a 3 and we rated back at a 1.
Still a good stout though. If you like dark varieties and stouty beers, the booze isn't too much over the top and it is sweet and sticky enough to let you know there is some good roasty malt in this one. Cheers!

We love reviews (150 characters or more)! Check out: How to Review a Beer. You don't need to get fancy. Drop some thoughts on the beer's attributes (look, smell, taste, feel) plus your overall impression. Something that backs up your rating and helps others. Thanks!
