Note: The version of Sno Ball that I am reviewing is the Bourbon Barrel version (I uploaded the pic, however feel free to pull it in case this does not match that of the regular Sno Ball Fight; as I am not familiar with Great Notion).
Poured from a 16oz bottle into a tulip tasting glass (not ideal, but it's all we had). The pour is pitch black, with a minimal head and not much lacing afterwards (could be carbonated more in my opinion). The nose is powerful Chocolate, sweet, some solid Coconut, and (this is totally my opinion, but I smell TIRAMISU). It is not a Barrel forward smell or taste.
>> This is a sweetness bomb, that (in my opinion) will certainly please a large segment of people who drink the RISA style. There is not a lot of roastiness, coffiness, or bitterness in this beer, so it is not my personal style at all. The coconut is very obvious and works together with the coco nibs to bring sweetness to another level.
I am not going to use the "C" word here, but my wife (who loves desert RISA's) thought it was a bit too sweet for her. It is silky smooth. We drank it at room temperature, which helped to bring out a host of other taste notes which I appreciate.
They worked hard on this beer. The mouthfeel is perfect. I can really see some folks loving this beer. It is a perfect Desert beer.
I totally get it. It is personally, just not my cup of tea.
