Mardi Gras may be over, but Mamut XL will keep the good times rolling. Mamut XL is an imperial pastry stout blended with stout aged in Bourbon barrels. Mamut XL is still treated with the familiar flavors of cacao nibs, marshmallow, cinnamon, and vanilla. Just like the regular Mamut but with an added kick. Laissez les bons temps rouler! *contains lactose

Mamut XL– from Great Notion. Received from @snaotheus in a ninja strike during BSBIF#1. Reviewed 25/01/24 (Review 3230). Note that I use DD/MM/YY protocol.
Stamped on the top rim, above the label “IT’S MORPHIN TIME 02.28.23”. Stored at 34 degrees at home. Served at 55.0 degrees F in a hand washed and dried Jester King snifter. The final temperature was 61.3 degrees F.
Appearance – 4.25
First pour – Deep Amber (SRM 15), clear.
Body – Ruby Brown (SRM 24), opaque. Under direct light, same. When rear-lite, light penetration at the bottom edge, ruby, and the top edge, olive.
Head - Average (Maximum 1.2 cm, aggressive center pour), brown sugar, high density and fizzy, quickly gone, leaving a 0.05 – 0.1 cm bubble ring, constantly being renewed by carbonation, and no cap.
Lacing – Fair.
Aroma – 4.25 – Bourbon (weak), and cocoa (weaker) and slightly sweet roasted malt (weakest). No yeast, no hops, no alcohol (11.8 % ABV as marked on the label).
Flavor – 4.25 – Begins slightly sweet with bourbon and cocoa. No yeast, no hops. No dimethylsulfide or diacetyl. No ethanol. Mild gastric burning which could be as easily from the cinnamon as the ethanol.
Palate – 4.25 – Medium; creamy; lively carbonation.
Final impression and summation: 4.25 Although a bit sweet for my taste, the cocoa offsets nicely the bourbon sourness. Unfortunately, no vanillin or tannin from the barrels comes through, just the bourbon flavors. Cinnamon is detectable but not overwhelming. Thanks Ryan!
