I decided to try something a bit lighter before calling it a night. I am using a pint glass and serving the beer at 42 degrees. The pour created a creamy, one-fingered, light orange head with above-average retention. The slow dissipation left lots of lacing on the glass. The beer is orange with light amber hues, charting around SRM 8, and hazy. The beer has lots of fruit floating the beer. The appearance of this sour is above average, an elegant beer.
Nosing the glass, I smell a massive amount of fruit leaping out of the glass. The fruit promenade starts with oranges, lemons, peaches, and strawberries. The malt is lighter with a touch of toasted grains and some crackers. The beer has a heavy undertone of fruity sweetness; with a touch of floral blossoms. The fruit aromas do have a slight chemical enhancement to them, they do not quite smell like the real thing.
I was concerned with the fruity sweetness this beer was going to be a sugar bomb, but my fears abated with the first sip. The beer flavors start with lemon, oranges, peaches, pineapple, and strawberries. The malt profile is simple with notes of toasted malts, light malty sweetness, and a subtle cracker flavor. I taste a light hop profile with floral blossoms, grassy, and earthy.
The mouthfeel is tart and has a tannic finish. The body is light and has medium-plus carbonation.
I cannot quite make out why the fruit seems different than, say a few excellent kettle sour beers I have consumed. Reading the label, I see artificial stuff and food dyes, I do not care to have this in any of my beers. Too much artificial shit and dyes are present in a lot of foods. Coming back to the beer, I think the sour is okay. The nose and the taste are vastly different. Personally, it is an average beer, I have consumed far better sours.
