Well, this is a green beer! Emerald green and gem clear, with a head that has a green tint. The head is frothy, holding one inch for a while, then leaving two layers of thick lace on a big, clunky mug.
The aroma is mild with honeydew melon, cucumber and light touches of vanilla.
The flavor is similarly mild, opening with vanilla then melon and no noticeable raspberry. I suspect the base style is either a Pilsner or a mild Cream Ale. The long finish is a medley of the melon flavors. I had expected it to be tart, but not in the least. There is a slight astringency late in the finish.
The light body and coarse, silky texture work well with the light, fizzy carbonation. There is no hint of alcohol.
This is definitely an interesting and tasty beer. I suspect age may have muted the aroma and flavors (just thinking about that raspberry). I will look for this again in July and August, if only to test my theory regarding the effects of age. Besides, I expect it will be excellent on a hazy, hot and humid, summer afternoon.
