Kent The Otter is our barrel-aged barleywine. This is the most insane brew we have ever made. Only Maris Otter malt and East Kent Golding hops were used with a hardy English yeast. This barleywine was meticulously fermented for months before resting in nine small format barrels from our pals at Rock Filter Distillery. A multiplex of flavors was revealed after slumbering for 18 months in these Minnesota oak holts. Caramelized sugar, dried papaya, bittersweet cocoa, orange marmalade and toasty barrel playfully frolic across your senses. This barleywine features simple ingredients that yield complex results. Fabulous for cellaring or drinking now.

Pours a deep black/brown with little to no head. Appears thick and viscous.
The aroma is strong. Dry wood up front. Stewed stone fruits, fig, red liquorice, pleasant. A little booze in the nose as well.
The taste follows closely. Barrel starts up front with that dry, woody character dominating. The liquorice is more prominent on the tongue, but the prunes and figs and dates are all there. This is very sweet. I won’t be able to polish this off myself in one sitting sweet. Still, not off-putting.
The body is thick and somewhat syrupy. The syrupy texture is the only negative to this beer for me.
This is really good. Likely not worth the trouble of hunting down, nor the price it costs to do so, but definitely deserving of being sought after.

Wow. One of the best barleywines produced in the past couple of years. It's super sweet (just like VSOA/Agates) with all of the characteristic toffee/molasses/tobacco/leather notes and a fine barrel finish.
