Style: Berliner Weissbier

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 4.50%

Availability: Limited (brewed once)

Notes / Commercial Description:
Few beer styles can match the delicate, sparkling character of the classic Berliner Weisse, with its light body and tart palate. It’s said that Napoleon’s troops referred to it as “The Champagne of the North,” high praise for beer, coming from Frenchmen. With Berliner Weisse, we pay tribute to the style, while giving it a distinctively American twist. Bright and thirst-quenching, the beer is enlivened by soft lactic notes.

I am on another Coup de Boule adventure with this as my third beer in the series.

From the bottle: "German-style Sour Ale"; "6 IBUs".

I really manipulated this one in the bottle before Pop!ping the cap. I wanted to ensure that, as a Wheat Beer base, it would have whatever level of haziness/cloudiness that I could generate. Following the Pop! of the cap, I gave it a hard, aggro pour some distance above the glass. I was not playing around as I wanted to see what would happen. I got a brief two fingers of dense, foamy, creamy, bone-white head that quickly dissipated to wisps. Color was a lightly-hazy Golden-Amber (SRM = > 5, < 7). Nose was quite sharp, very sour, but what is to be expected in the style. Mouthfeel was thin-to-medium, not watery, but not terribly removed from it, either. The taste was not as sharp or sour as the nose had led me to expect. I would not have needed or wanted any syrups with this one, even if I had not weaned myself off of them long ago. I was actually hoping for more of a challenge while this came off more pedestrian. Finish was dry and sour, but it lacked Ooomph! YMMV.

Man this stuff is terrible. Maybe one of the worst Berliners I’ve ever had, I’m a sour fanatic but this stuff lacks all the way around. Taste is terrible,a weird tart lemon. It’s just missing a lot to be desired

Appearance: Pours a hazy golden color with a thin head that fades to a ringlet; spotty lacing lingers

Smell: Green apple, lemon and lime tones waft with the tangy wheat

Taste: Lemon forward with the lime and green apple tones emerging; tangy wheat, underneath, with a moderate sour edge in the finish

Mouthfeel: Light bodied with moderate carbonation and some pucker

Overall: Eminently quaffable and a good representation of the traditional style

Look is murky lemon. smell is lemon apple and pear. Taste of tart lemon and tonic. Mouth feel overall good ,carbonation . Tickles tongue and palate. Overall this is not the best interpretation of the style I have had by any means, but it is refreshing and worthwhile.

Very pedestrian but inoffensive take on the style - it shows wise restraint with the tartness level but doesn't accentuate any other flavors. The style itself isn't very adventurous but this beer still seems a little timid. It is easy-going & poundable, but anonymous

Poured out a slightly hazy, golden yellow color with a small white head of foam. It smelled of wheat, lemon and tartness. Nice wheat and tart lemon flavors. Crisp and sharp.

Pours a pretty nice very slight hazy yellow color, pretty nice carbonation, with a quick/small/fizzy white head, which leaves minimal sticky lacing behind. The nose is malty, yeasty, tart. The taste is malty, yeasty, tart/sour. Medium body, ABV hidden very well. Overall, a tasty brew.

The acid is bright but not biting, so kudos on making a well-balanced Berliner. But like with many in the style, I dont taste a lot else going on beyond the lemon-lime sour and background toasted wheat. Which I should add is delicious, but I'm always looking for more from a beer.
