Few beer styles can match the delicate, sparkling character of the classic Berliner Weisse, with its light body and tart palate. It’s said that Napoleon’s troops referred to it as “The Champagne of the North,” high praise for beer, coming from Frenchmen. With Berliner Weisse, we pay tribute to the style, while giving it a distinctively American twist. Bright and thirst-quenching, the beer is enlivened by soft lactic notes.

12oz can into Nonic Pint
Canned on 6/19/16
BB 11/16/18
Murky dirty blonde with big foam head that recedes quickly
Tart lemony aroma
Tart & lemony all the way through
Feel is great, crisp and lively as it says on the can
Overall this is a solid beer because I like how it drinks, but points off for being one dimensional

Picked this up two summers ago, its pretty good. So of course, its retired before I could stock up on an affordable berliner. Its hard times being a berliner fan, its like the one style of beer that still doesn't have a nationally distributed beer whereas everyone and their brother makes a few pastry stouts.
Anyhoo, pours yellow to amber, slightly cloudy and darker than your average berliner. 1/3" white head. Aroma hits that tart wheat smacking saliva inducing sour mash like notes.
Taste is pretty straight forward, I think the American twist the commercial tug job speaks of is in reference to the slightly more sour presence, lacto pitch here, and its just fine. Even though the color was giving a maltier appearance, there wasn't anything like that, this just hit the wheat and lemon notes and left with great levity. Packs plenty of what I'm looking for in a summer beer without the booziness. Good dry back end to the mouth feel.

12 ounce can into tulip glass, canned on 6/23/2018. Pours lightly hazy medium golden yellow color with a 2 finger fairly dense and rocky off white head with fantastic retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lingers. Nice dense soapy lacing clings on the glass, with a fair amount of streaming carbonation retaining the cap. Fantastic appearance. Aromas of big sour/tart lemon, lime, orange, peach, pear, melon, red/green apple, white grape/wine, hay, straw, grass, wheat, cracker, white bread dough, light pepper/lacto funk, and yeast earthiness. Damn nice aromas with great balance and complexity of fruity/acidic yeast, and pale/wheat malt notes; with great strength. Taste of big sour/tart lemon, lime, orange, peach, pear, melon, red/green apple, white grape/wine, hay, straw, grass, wheat, cracker, white bread dough, light pepper/lacto funk, and yeast earthiness. Light-moderate lactic tartness, and light spiciness on the finish. Lingering notes of tart lemon, lime, orange, peach, pear, melon, red/green apple, white grape/wine, hay, straw, grass, wheat, cracker, white bread dough, light pepper/lacto funk, and yeast earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Awesome complexity, robustness, and balance of fruity/acidic yeast, and pale/wheat malt flavors; with an awesome malt/tartness balance, and no puckering flavors after the finish. Fairly crisp/clean finishing. Light-moderate increasing dryness from tartness and carbonation. Medium-high carbonation and light-medium body; with a very smooth, and moderately bready/grainy/acidic balanced mouthfeel that is fantastic. Zero warming alcohol as expected of 4.5%. Overall this is an outstanding Berliner weisse. All around awesome complexity, robustness, and balance of fruity/acidic yeast, and pale/wheat malt flavors; very smooth, crisp, clean, and refreshing to drink; with the mellowly lactic/acidic finish for the style. Very flavorful and not watery for the ABV. Perfectly balanced Lacto/yeast complexity and pale/wheat malts against acidity. A highly enjoyable offering, and amazing style example.

12 oz can poured into willybecher glass.
A: slightly hazy gold tan body with a small white head that settles quickly.
S: Light sourness a little lemon and a decent amount of wheat
T: Decent amount of sourness good bit of lemon finishes with a decent bit of wheat and a cloying amount of lemon almost like drinking lemon juice.
M: Too heavy for a Berliner
O: for being known as a producer of quality sours this a touch disappointing.

I am on another Coup de Boule adventure with this as my third beer in the series.
From the bottle: "German-style Sour Ale"; "6 IBUs".
I really manipulated this one in the bottle before Pop!ping the cap. I wanted to ensure that, as a Wheat Beer base, it would have whatever level of haziness/cloudiness that I could generate. Following the Pop! of the cap, I gave it a hard, aggro pour some distance above the glass. I was not playing around as I wanted to see what would happen. I got a brief two fingers of dense, foamy, creamy, bone-white head that quickly dissipated to wisps. Color was a lightly-hazy Golden-Amber (SRM = > 5, < 7). Nose was quite sharp, very sour, but what is to be expected in the style. Mouthfeel was thin-to-medium, not watery, but not terribly removed from it, either. The taste was not as sharp or sour as the nose had led me to expect. I would not have needed or wanted any syrups with this one, even if I had not weaned myself off of them long ago. I was actually hoping for more of a challenge while this came off more pedestrian. Finish was dry and sour, but it lacked Ooomph! YMMV.

Man this stuff is terrible. Maybe one of the worst Berliners I’ve ever had, I’m a sour fanatic but this stuff lacks all the way around. Taste is terrible,a weird tart lemon. It’s just missing a lot to be desired

Appearance: Pours a hazy golden color with a thin head that fades to a ringlet; spotty lacing lingers
Smell: Green apple, lemon and lime tones waft with the tangy wheat
Taste: Lemon forward with the lime and green apple tones emerging; tangy wheat, underneath, with a moderate sour edge in the finish
Mouthfeel: Light bodied with moderate carbonation and some pucker
Overall: Eminently quaffable and a good representation of the traditional style

Look is murky lemon. smell is lemon apple and pear. Taste of tart lemon and tonic. Mouth feel overall good ,carbonation . Tickles tongue and palate. Overall this is not the best interpretation of the style I have had by any means, but it is refreshing and worthwhile.
