Notes: This beer is our homage to all of those wonder-filled cookies. While you can’t twist, lick and dunk, there is still fun to be had in this big barrel-aged stout with just the right blend of chocolate and vanilla, and a creamy filling of lactose.

Malt: pale, Dark Crystal, brown, Rye Crystal, Cara 300, Cara 50, chocolate, Midnight Wheat, oats

From the back label: "PLEASE ENJOY BY: 23SEP2023 E L092321 10:06"

Appearance: It is a black bodied beer with a very short film of small khaki bubbles that quickly fades into a thin ring around the glass. No lacing.

Aroma: There is a pleasant bourbon aroma to the beer with notes of wet oak.

Taste: Up front there is a hint of dark chocolate. As the beer approaches the center of the palate it picks up a stronger chocolate character. There is a light bit of bourbon flavor in the middle as well. The flavors don't develop much as it crosses the palate and it stays consistent throughout the drinking experience.

Mouthfeel: The body is in the medium range but it also feels a tad thin. The label does state that it is "13.3% ALC/VOL." so the thinness isn't a detractor for such a high ABV beer. It does a really good job of hiding the alcohol content as well. There is a pleasant texture to the beer as well, giving it a somewhat smooth character.

Overall: The label on this beer states that this is a "BARREL-AGED STOUT WITH VANILLA AND COCOA FLAVORS." It does have a nice chocolate character and the barrel character definitely comes through in the form of what tastes like bourbon. The vanilla seems to be lost in the mix. There is a cookie on the label that looks like an Oreo or Hydrox cookie, giving the impression that they were shooting for that kind of flavor. It does have a chocolate flavor similar to what is found in a Hydrox cookie, but the stuffing for frosting inside isn't there. It might not be for you if you want something that tastes like an Oreo, but if you are looking for a nice barrel-aged stout then this definitely works. I could drink it again from time to time and I would recommend it.

Bought a single 12oz bottle $4.99 Village bottle Shop
693 days before best by date
Smell of sweet vanilla, followed by strong bourbon smell, then prune mui
Dark black color
Heavy, thick mouthfeel
Medium-low carbonation
Taste of chocolate, vanilla, strong bourbon finish. Fudge taste becomes more prevalent as it warms.
Overall great for the price. A good dessert beer. Like a liquified bourbon infused Oreo cookie. Taste matches the name and rated that way.

A great beer, but the oreo isnt really present. Its got a very strong bourbon flavor, which i like, but its not really how they advertise the beer to taste. If this was advertised as a bourbon forward beer, with light hints of chocolate and vanilla, it would be a homerun. That being said, i will be getting more and would highly recommend it.

As a kid, cookies and milk seemed so complete. Why did it take this long to figure out that this pairing needed bourbon?

Boulevard completes the pairing with Stuff of Legend, a jet black pour with a densely crowning mocha froth. As a scent of sweet cream, coffee, chocolate, vanilla and overall pastry drifts across the nose, there's a double stuffed, wafer and icing character that translates to a sweet confectioner's taste with its initial sip.

As the malty and pastry riddled imperial stout absorbs into the tastebuds, the flavors subtly shift toward deep and dark roast coffee, cocoa and a woodsy spice that carries all those bourbon nuances of vanilla, caramel, coconut, ether and oak. As the beer trends heated and sweet, hints of White Russian cocktails come to mind in a lactose soaked finish that wraps up with hints of bitter aspartame.

Full, plush and sweet, the beer's mildly cloying character renders it to a slow sipping affair, perfect for sharing as an after dinner digestive or an accompaniment with cream and coffee-centric deserts.

Not the kind of beer I go for often, but Boulevard is always worth a shot. And they pulled this off pretty well.

Even without the bourbon barrel, which is pretty subdued, to keep it in check, I don't think this would be overly sweet. There is just enough roast to the malt, the chocolate and vanilla still shine.

12 oz bottle, enjoy by 9/23/23, into GITM Teku.

Inky black, syrup-like, with a head of 1/2 finger, almond colored. Stays around awhile and dwindles to a ring.

Aroma is caramel, vanilla, and cocoa, with slight perfume and lots of wet, astringent barrel.

Flavor is very hot - there's a ton of barrel on this one, but the caramel, chocolate cookie, and slight vanilla present in the flavor help overcome this and balance it out with a delightful sweetness. Is it like an Oreo? Nah. But it has enough of the big three above to come across as slightly nuanced and perhaps a little complex, while still remaining fun. The finish waxes a bit perfumey but not overly so, with hints of floral gin and then more whiskey.

Feel is hot of course, with a delightful thick sticky slickness (say that three times fast) and a stimulating carbonation to create a good barrel stout mouthfeel.

Overall, a pretty good beer, if a bit overdone on the barrel; and while it's not one of their best, it's still delicious. I don't regret the purchase.

Poured from the 12 oz. bottle into a Samuel Smith English tulip.

a: Opaque black with a half finger thick brown head which receded to even surface foam and dense to spotty lacing.

s: Vanilla and milk chocoiate.

t: Follows the nose along with mild alcohol, moderate hop bite and throat burn. Sweetish finish.

m: medium, good body and some carbonation tingle.

o: A strong, flavorful stout. Drawback for some is that the added vanilla and chocolate mask much of the whiskey (?) barrel ageing flavor, apparently leaving its main influence in the high ABV. Still, a superior, rich brew.

12oz bottle enjoy by 23SEP2023 poured into a tulip glass 43° F 13.3% ABV 20 IBU. The beer pours dense black with no light penetration and minimal rusty brown head. The head recedes to a thin ring and a few tiny bubbles. The aroma is mild with chocolate, bourbon barrel and vanilla. The flavor is semisweet to sweet vanilla, chocolate and bourbon barrel grafted onto a strong roasted malt backbone. Mild bitterness and barrel offset the sweet on the finish. The mouthfeel is full bodied with just less than medium carbonation and a somewhat dry finish. The ABV is well hidden. Overall, very good. This one rides a fine line without being too sweet and gets saved by the lingering barrel heat in the finish.

Poured into a Fremont small snifter. Pours a very dark mahogany brown, appearing opaque black in the glass with a half finger, rather fizzy brown head that dissipates slowly to patches with light lacing. Aroma of dark toasted malt, bourbon, dried plums, cocoa and vanilla. Flavor is dark toasted malt, bourbon, raisins, vanilla and mild cocoa. Boozy bourbon finish. Medium bodied with light to moderate creaminess; sharp active carbonation despite the rapid head dissipation. Not quite getting the Oreo thing here, my bottle really has more of a classic blended strong ale character than a stout. Which is great, but not what I expected. Big bourbon barrel character supported by deep malt base. Perhaps the plummy barleywine notes are from the bourbon, but it's a big character here. Needs some more chocolate character, but nails the cookie and vanilla concept, although I'm getting raisin cookie. It's been a while since I had a big Boulevard ale and this is a flavorful one.

Beautiful pour - dark, thick with a deep copper head.
The smell is more alcohol than Oreo, but still pretty good.
I don’t really get the Oreo flavor unless I really focus on every detail and try to pull it out. That being said, the flavor is very good. Complex, with a little of barrel aging coming through.
The feel is what you would expect after watching the pour - thick and smooth. Great feel.
A solid beer.

L: Dark as coal. Chocolate lacing. Mild carbonation. Glossy.

S: Dark chocolate, toffee, The barrel aging isn't obvious on the nose.

T: Definitely has a marshmallow appeal to it with a chocolate pie crust background.

F: A hint of alcoholic warming and a smooth finish. I almost want to wash it down with a glass of milk.

O: Tastes great. It's drinkable, which, if you've had any of the barrel age or imperial stouts on the market, is saying a lot about the quality.

Going for an oreo I guess. I love oreo's, esp. double stuff, but I'm not sure I expect a beer to match it. I don't think I rate it on that standard.
Rather loud with a boozy nose. Black as MN winter night. Smallish very dark head leaves quickly.
Sweet and rich with a strong vanilla that isn't artificial tasting or too rich. This is really well blended between the richness dark malt with cocoa, vanilla and bourbon booziness. Very smooth with a velvet mouthfeel.
Nicely done. One of the better new big stouts out this year.

Black beauty stout pour. Brown rust-colored head settles quickly.
Nose is barrel and a hint of cocoa, and of course some alcohol.
Taste is full of chocolate and vanilla cream flavors, some marshmallow, dates, sweet molasses and barrel burn to properly round off the sweet notes. So many seeet notes sitting nicely. Even cinnamon after awhile of sipping this. You get the booze, it’s not hidden, but neither is all that flavor. It works out and I keep sipping this.
Feels perfect as an imperial stout should, big and creamy, syrupy (creamy) thickness and still some syrup at the very end. A very nice end.
This one does live up to its name. Now that I think back to the very few stouts I’ve ever had from Boulevard, this one here makes me think they’re even under-appreciated in that department. While you get the booze here, you get it like it’s a 10-11% beer, not one that’s nearly 14% abv. like this treat. A top dessert beer.

L: Black even under light. Dark tan head that dissipates. No lacing but who honestly cares.

S: Those rubbery chocolate mini tootsie rolls from the dollar general as a kid (I’m fond of the smell) along with whiskey and a touch of mocha.

T: Rich chocolate to start with a little of the tootsie roll taste. A watered down version of the tootsie roll taste takes over the middle along with genuine natural vanilla. The ending is rich chocolate again with the tootsie roll, along with the burnt whiskey barrels, graham cracker texture and slight taste, and a molasses /vanilla.

F: Heavy syrupy full body feel. Mild carbonation that’s well placed. Lingering taste. Excellent complement to the flavor and style.

O: Very good. I prefer magic drip to this but I’m finding that I enjoy boulevards stouts over founders which are more prevalent in my area. With that being said I’m not sure this pulls off Oreos per se but you definitely taste a chocolate and vanilla cookie. Will hopefully have more again. I hope they make this a seasonal instead of a 1 off.

S: Strong bourbon is forefront with a hint of vanilla, chocolatey and a note of marshmallow, don't quite get the Oreo here.

T:. Booze is forefront in the taste, get a strong amount of bourbon, a touch of vanilla and some chocolate, don't necessarily get the Oreo here.

F:. Smooth and oily slick pairs with a big body.

O: Don't quite get the Oreo here, and the barrel aging overpowers some of the rest of the beer but still a nice stout.

"L092321" did not pour a head, but it did give off a fizzy sound. The color is dark chocolate, and it did at least have a thin brown ring around the glass, but that's gone.
It does have a cocoa aroma and a medium creamy mouthfeel, a little sticky.
Vanilla comes through more in the flavor with a warming booziness in the finish.
This isn't an innovation in imperial stouts, but it is worth a tipple.
Oh! It's a chocolate cookie in a bottle. Duh!
