I love stouts and this one impressed my father and I so much we pretty much drank only this the entire night.
The smell is great with the coffee tones, and the taste isn’t bitter at all and doesn’t leave an unpleasant aftertaste.

Poured from can copper with thick foamy head that leaves good lacing. Aroma: caramel with light flowery notes. Taste: caramel, bready balanced by light but present bittering hops.

Pours a nice amber copper color with a thin head. The head breaks leaving a small collar and a tiny island of foam. Smell is sweet malts and caramel. Taste is definitely malt forward and little hops. Tastes more like a lager to me at this point. Medium carbonation and body with a definite dry finish.

Why can't I get a good amber ale round these parts? This doesn't meet my needs. It's middle of the road on its best day.

The most beautiful colour beer I've seen. Crisp taste, clean, easy. The perfect beer to drink all night.
Go get yourself a few cans.

Copper-coloured transparent with small head. The taste is sweet and malty, not much bitterness to be found. I detect a bit of caramel in the aftertaste

Clear coppery red, lots of bubble action. Just a ring out of a short head. Handsome colour. Malty nose with the bite of hops and alcohol lurking in behind. Malt forward, nice bittering hops that linger, bready finish. Some little sting from carbonation. Overall not a bad effort, quite drinkable, given that like a few others here have said, I'm not a fan of the style either. Kudos nonetheless.

Appearance: Poured with a finger and a half of frothy head that retained very well and produced some mild lacing. The body is a dark, clear coppery red with signs of ample carbonation. More lacing would earn it the perfect score here.

Smell: A little strange to be honest, I mean I'm certainly getting a caramel scent from it, but I'm also getting kind of a wet straw lager smell from it too. I'm not sure if grassy hops or the choice of malt is causing it. The barest notes of pine also seem hidden in the background too. I wouldn't say it's bad, but it's a bit unexpected in kind of a neutral way. Anyways, the intensity decent, and warming doesn't seem to really change things too much here.

Taste: A curious case this one is, as it starts with sweet malt and molasses with a slight hint of pine in the background, which then shifts into a more bitter pale ale experience as pine, grass and earth seem to come forward and seems to have a bit of a dry aspect. The contrast is very apparent, but not excessively pronounced.

Mouthfeel: The aftertaste is mild and mixed which is welcome, as the sweet and bitter aspects somehow survive after drinking. The carbonation tends to help out the bitter aspects more then the sweeter ones on this one, but they seem fairly well balanced. The transitioning is decent, but not quite to the point I'd call it smooth. I do like beers that maintain a frothy head throughout as this one does.

Drinkability: It's got that dry bit at the end which for me reduces the ease of drinking. It's certainly on the lighter end of medium bodied, and it doesn't leave me feeling gassy at all. The whole drinking seems off the beaten path, both for better and worse.

Final Thoughts: This beer is a bit of an anomaly for me. I mean, it smells between a caramel like ale and a straw lager. It tastes somewhere between a high malt red and a mild pale ale. It's really a middle ground from what I typically expect from this style, either near or at pale ale hops or just bellow a Bock, so I suppose in that regard it's a success. I think it certainly is worth trying, and I would probably have it again, but I wouldn't be buying cases of the stuff. Worth a whirl in my eyes.

473 mL can from the LCBO; the date stamped is smudged beyond recognition. Served barely chilled.

Pours an attractive, effervescent reddish copper-amber colour, with more than two fingers of puffy, billowing off white-coloured head erupting from the surface. It seeps off slowly over the next 6-7 minutes or so, leaving behind a messy, uneven coating of seafoam-like lace; when it all settles down, a dense, creamy cap remains in place. The nose is quite malt-forward, with sweet notes of caramel and toffee supplying the bulk of the aroma. I'm also getting notes of red apple flesh, honey, and hints of leafy, weedy, earthy hops with a tinge of butteriness.

The flavours follow the aroma - mostly malts, with unassumingly subtle hops in the background. Caramel, butterscotch and toffee sweetness all come to mind, with a sort of bready, almost biscuity flavour mixed in with overripe orchard fruit (mostly red apple). Earthy, leafy hops with a touch of resin round out the latter half of the profile, which finishes with a dirty bitterness. Light-bodied, with very soft, weak carbonation for this style; it feels very smooth on the palate, but also a little limp. Not an exciting beer, but you could certainly do worse.

Final Grade: 3.4, a B-. Outlaw's Bronco Copper Ale is about what I've come to expect from a "Canadian-style" red ale: the hops are a little dull in character, and present only in token quantities - never quite managing to counteract the scale-tipping malt bill and its unrefined sweetness. Not technically flawed, other than the twinge of diacetyl - this would have been a worthwhile addition to the ON marketplace if it were still 2010, but today's hopheads will likely find this copper ale to be forgettable at best. I suppose I'd recommend Bronco to fans of malt-forward red/pale ales... but most BAs probably wouldn't be missing much if they just skipped it entirely.

473 ml can served cold into an MGD pint glass. Purchased from the LCBo for around $3 CDN.

Appearance - Pours a dark copper colored beer with red hues. Crystal clear with middling carbonation. Soft off-white finger of head rests on top and dwindles away rather quickly.

Smell - Malty as all get out, picking up notes of caramel and molasses. Some soft orchard fruit in the background. Near bock-like in the nose.

Taste - Lots of malt with the caramel and molasses combo coming through. Sort of buttery, diacetyl coming through? A little fruity too, not bad but the flavor leaves the tongue a little too quickly for my liking.

Mouthfeel - body is light and watery, carbonation is soft, easy to drink nut maybe a little flat. Nothing to complain about here.

Overall - Bronco is certainly an agreeable enough red ale that is heavy on the malt. The balance may be just a little off and the near buttery sensation isn't a great fit either. Still for those looking for a red ale with a few little characteristics and flavor profiles that are similar to that of a bock, this beer may be for you. A respectable enough initial showing.

500ml can from the LCBO. Served well-chilled in a nonic pint.

Pours a nice amber colour. Not much head or lacing to speak of.

Sweet caramel malt is the dominant aroma.

Lots of sweet malt is mixed with a slightly astringent hop profile. I can't quite put my finger on it, but there's something sort of off going on here.

Body is a little thin for the style. I'd definitely like the mouthfeel to be a little creamier. There's a bit of a roasted malt aftertaste.

Nothing too objectionable, but likely not something I'll pick up again. There are several far better examples of this style available locally.
