473 mL can from the LCBO; dated Aug 22 2021 and served slightly chilled. The word means 'strawberry' in Ojibwe, and proceeds from the beer go to a charity that supports indigenous women in Canada.
Pours a clear golden-amber colour, with two fingers of foamy, fluffy white head arising at the surface. It fades off within a matter of minutes, quickly reduced to a creamy collar and filmy cap, along with a thin ring of lacing. It smells of grainy pale malts and bready sweetness, with subtle suggestions of strawberry.
This is a solid, well balanced fruit beer, with the base beer and fruit additions sharing the spotlight more or less equally. I'm tasting grainy pale malts, bread and a touch of honey sweetness, with gentle hints of strawberry throughout the sip. Finishes fruity, with a touch of earthy hops preceding a grainy aftertaste that doesn't linger. Medium-light in body, with moderate carbonation levels that feel a little prickly on the tongue; relatively smooth, almost creamy on the palate, with fantastic drinkability - I would have no problem whatsoever tossing back several of these around a campfire.
Final Grade: 3.82, a B+. Ode'imin is a welcome addition to the Ontario beer scene: let's face it, strawberry beers are not the easiest thing to find around here. It's the kind of fruit beer that I can genuinely appreciate - the berry flavours are noticeable without being cloying, and they don't overwhelm the underlying beer itself. Nor do they come off as artificial, making me reasonably sure that they used actual strawberries here. Good beer for a good cause - don't hesitate to grab an armful of these if you're a strawberry beer fan looking for something light and sessionable.
