Freaky Friday is a concept created by our friends at Other Half and The Veil because, "The world is weird right now, so we thought we'd roll with it." While in-person collaborations are not an option at this time, joining the party on recipe swapping is a creative alternative.
For our second Freaky Friday mash-up with The Veil, we've had the pleasure of brewing the double dry-hopped version of their Citra-forward house Double IPA, Crucial Taunt. Pouring a vibrant, hazy yellow, the aroma offers a saturated balance of orange candy, citrus zest, and pineapple juice. Medium-bodied, with a soft mouthfeel, Crucial Crucial Taunt Taunt is deftly-balanced hop candy.
MALT: American 2-row Barley, Flaked Oats, Malted Oats, Carahell
HOPS: Citra, Citra Cryo, Ekuanot, CTZ

Was lucky enough to have this and nine others sent to me by Darin. Included in the haul was a handful of Trillium beers. Trillium’s website description was “Freaky Friday is a concept created by our friends at Other Half and The Veil because, "The world is weird right now, so we thought we'd roll with it." Poured a medium yellow-to-light gold hazy color with two fingers of white frothy head. Just a few bubbles coming up along the sides of the glass. Outstanding spotty lacing. Very good retention. (Sight - 4.00)
Smelled Citra, grapefruit, pine, lemon, lime, Ekuanot, orange rind, peach, tangerine and stone fruit. A little better out of the can with the Citra Cyro really coming through. (Smell - 4.25)
Taste followed the nose, but not quite as good overall. Got big Citra, grapefruit pulp, pine, lemon, lime, orange rind, peach, Ekuanot, tangerine, stone fruit, viney vegetable and peach skin. (Taste - 4.00)
Medium body. Oily texture. Average carbonation. Bitter finish. (Feel - 4.25)
This was an excellent beer overall. Glad I got the chance to try it. (Overall - 4.25)

A: Poured from the can into a Tree House tulip glass. Body is hazy dark golden with a thin whitish head on top.
S: Not terribly strong nose, but a nice one - earthy weed with pineapple. Some citrus too.
T: Sweeter tropical fruits: ripe pineapple, mango, guava, papaya. Also some citrus: grapefruit-orange juice with some lime. Ripe peaches and apricot too. Drinks on the sweet side, and real easy for its 8% ABV.
M: Juicy, medium in heft.
O: Very good.

Drank from a 16 fl. oz. 1 pint can purchased at Trillium Brewing Company, Boston, MA
Served in a tulip
12/03/20
Hazy, yellow ochre appearance. The body was topped by a soapy looking, finger-tall, bright white crown that quickly broke apart. A medium sized collar encircled the liquid. Streaks and dots of lacing stuck along the glass.
The aroma was impressive. Quite dank. Fairly skunky and weed-like. Juicy stone fruit notes also came through strong. Peach and apricot for sure. Citrus notes were also apparent. Grapefruit was most prominent. Bit of orange and tangerine as well.
Citrus dominated in the flavor profile. Tangerine and kumquat appeared up front. Juicy, tangy and slightly sweet. Peach and mango came through in the center. Grapefruit notes kicked in big time as the beer moved along the palate. Pithy and fairly bitter. The grapefruit became even more bitter and rind-like on the back end and the finish. Spicy, piney, resiny hop notes lingered after the swallow.
The mouthfeel was creamy, soft and smooth. Medium bodied for the style. A touch thinner than I anticipated. The liquid contained a fine, subtle effervescence.
Crucial Crucial Taunt Taunt is a respectable beer, but considering this is a Trillium/Veil Freaky Friday release, it was rather disappointing. Why Trillium decided to replicate a Veil flagship beer that merely gets above-average ratings is beyond me.
