2017 notes:
Clear, amber/brown-ish coloring, slim, cocoa-tinged head, lace-leaving.
In the nose: nice, caramel-toned malty notes. Sweet, but balanced. Right on.
In the mouth: Sweet malt hits the tongue first, delicious caramel-y malt flavors coat the palate. Medium bodied. Smooth (of course). And very tasty. Easy drinking. And yum. Yum, a-dum-dum. (That's my catch phrase that hasn't caught on.) Clean. Good. Yum. Also, there ain't nothing wrong with it. Good beer, and you'd better drink it.
From the can: "Designed to be a drinkable delicacy. Brewed with caramel malts, lightly sweetened with milk sugar, and then spiked with sea salt. Malts: Simpsons DRC, Pilsner, Caramel, Lactose. Hops: Cornet. Yeast: American Lager."

Poured from a 16oz can into glass.
Can notes: "A drinkable delicacy that's brewed with caramel malts, lightly sweetened with milk sugar, then spiked with sea salt."
Copper, amber body color. White head settles into ring with scattered islands. Minimal lacing.
Aroma of caramel malt. Sweet taste of malt, with salt.
Rather thin mouth feel.
A different tasting lager with the sweet and salty aspects.

color is nice. mostly clear and amber in color.
a bit nutty in the nose, and the salt is a little prevalent.
taste is notes of cola up front with a slightly salty finish.
medium body.
this is the second beer i've had from modist and i'm trying to understand the hype. this was fine, but not something i'd ever serve to someone else.

Pretty basic caramel malt lager with light spicy/citrus hops. Not too exciting except the salt adds a lot to the finish, and it has a nice, smooth, nicely lagered body.

Had this on tap at the brewery hall. Given they're really an up and comer I'm not gonna go too in depth because I'm sure they'll perfect this one or their offerings will change. This one was okay at best. Definitely got the salty flavors but the caramel notes were absent as far as I'm concerned. Really it was an okay lager with a salty finish IMO. Sounded great though.

this is a hoppy amber type, and another one of the more refined beers happening here. its clearer than the others, lighter red, more copper in color, and significantly more heady and carbonated than most of the rest as well. the aroma is soft, subtly sweet, like honey granola, with an orangey smelling hop complexion, a neat combination, and neither element too strong. there is a tea-like property to the flavor, a little bitter, a little herbal, but its nicely absorbed by the toasted grain character. the finish is orange peel and dried hay from the hops. enjoyable and well balanced beer, not maybe as interesting or ambitious as many of the other ones on their menu, but its a tasty beer and something quite well made, less of a work in progress this time. i liked this place a lot, and think there are some big things ahead for them. this was maybe my second favorite they had going behind they coffee blonde ale, which is really the one i think that will put them on the map. stop by if you are in town!
