Tan head. Black color. Roasted notes with coffee flavors caramel and chocolate. Medium bodied. Medium carbonation. Ends with a roasted feel. Decent but I am not in love with it.

Had this on tap at Modist for the ‘17 humungus bottle realease. Not sure what to think, when i asked the girl serving behind the counter if the ‘16 is different from the ‘17 she told me that last years -‘16 (this beer) was a “barley wine”...the two are deffinately different, but the “16” looks smells and taste like a imperial stout, but VERY roast malt driven on the aroma and taste. Also there is a malt used in here that to my wife and I smells and taste like metal of some sort...aluminum? Tin? Idk, same malt that i tasted in the Founders Imperial Stout that i gave a 1 outta 5 rating to, just much less predominnant here, plus the mouthfeel is far too carbonated for either a stout or barleywine, even after warming for 45 minutes...i think im gonna have to add a 2017 humungus to beer advocate for a true rating

Impenetrable blackness, ring of cocoa-toned foam.
In the nose: spicy rye malt hits first. Big malt aromatics, with a side of hops.
In the mouth: Big rye malt. I mean, big. Zesty hop blast. Great balance in this big, big beer. Thick mouthfeel, huge. Yuuuuge.
