This is a blonde, lambic, Belgian collaborative beer between Brasserie En Stoemelings and Cantillon. The 1897 is a blend between a seasonal-style beer with three cereals (barley, wheat and oats) including a good amount of raw grains (not malted) and a young lambic from Cantillon. The result is dry, sour, with cereal and a fresh bitterness.

This is my second from En Stoemelings. In the first, I suggested that since they were now ten years old that they should get their business practice to keep their brewing growing. Apparently they didn't and are now out of business.
That's too bad that someone or some other brewer couldn't save them. Cantillon -- who could live longer than beer, or at least any of us -- tried to help Stoemelings and couldn't do enough.
No need to give a lengthy review of a brew no longer made. But 1897 is a good saison, albeit on the tart side... although only moderately so. I may have gotten one of the last bottles in captivity and am still glad I did because it is well made. A Sante' Stoemelings, wherever you may be.

Golden murky appearance with a modest loose off white head. So unique, as it drank like a mix between a gueuze, a blonde, and a pale ale. Grain, malt, fruity, dry, hoppy. Medium body, lively mouthfeel.
