355 mL slim can purchased at Superstore; no packaging date. Served barely chilled.
Pours a muddled, hazy straw yellow colour, capped with half an inch of tight, creamy white foam that lasts for the better part of five minutes. It leaves behind a small smattering of sticky lace, in addition to a modest-sized collar and thin, filmy cap. Leathery, mild Brett funk on the nose, with considerably subtler hints of cantaloupe, grapefruit, lemon and lychee, as well as a touch of grassy, herbal hops.
A nice little saison, its grainy malt sweetness being overshadowed by both hops and yeast: the former contributing fruity notes of melon, lemony citrus and stone fruit, and the latter lending a hint of leathery, barnyard funk that adds another layer of complexity. That funkiness persists through a grassy, somewhat spicy finish that fades into a slightly lemony aftertaste. Light in body, with moderate carbonation that froths up a bit in the mouth, resulting in a fairly soft, pillowy feel on the tongue. I had no problem whatsoever tossing this one back, and would've enjoyed another.
Final Grade: 3.96, a B+. Exchange's Σ Throwback is quite possibly the best 'light' saison I've tried to date, being inherently sessionable while also incorporating a pleasant Brett funkiness, of exactly the sort that I like to see from a saison. I forget what I paid for this, but it was almost definitely worth it considering the serious lack of funky saisons in the Ontario market these days. Strongly recommended - another solid beer from one of this province's more underrated operations.

Pours light yellow coloured, hazy, with not much of a head. Smells sour, and bitter. Typical saison taste, with the bitterness and the spicy, tangy notes very present. Quite refreshing on a hot day. Lighter in alcohol, especially for a farmhouse ale.

Pale hazy chalky yellow colour. Short head, no lace. Tart up front, bitter from hops, dry finish. Yup, light and fruity as advertised, but flavours kind of anonymous. Drinkable, but unremarkable.
