This golden, quaffable ale is brewed with Maris Otter malt and classic English hops. There is always time for a wee pint. Cheeky, Innit?

At my lady Pamela's house; canned and chilled, 473mL. From my favourite LCBO at Tecumseh Mall in nearby Windsor. My first beer from the Niagara-on-the-Lake brewery.

473ml can served cold into a pint glass. LCBO purchase.
Appearance - Clear light golden color with a couplke of fingers of head and lots of visible carbonation.
Smell - Light fruity notes, mostly of apple and grape skins. Some grainy malt softly in the background.
Taste - Light with fair bitterness. Again a hint of apple, mostly malted barley and noble hops. Flavor is one note and fades quick, even for the style.
Mouthfeel - Light bodied with nice carbonation, easy drinking.
Overall - A solid English mild that I wish had a little more depth and fruitiness. With that said and enjoyable example of an underused style.

473 mL can from the LCBO; dated Mar 19 2024 and served barely chilled.
Pours a clear straw yellow colour with one inch of loose, foamy white head gathering atop. It fades within a minute or two, reduced to a bubbly collar and thin, sudsy cap; multiple small patches of lace are splashed onto the glass in the process. Subtly sweet aroma featuring classic English malts, suggestive of toasted grain, toffee and orchard fruits; the hops are tea-leafy and a bit floral.
The flavours are appealing, but also very thin - not entirely surprising given that this is only 3%. Lightly toasted grains, subtle toffee sweetness and a hint of apple skin, followed by some leafy hop bitterness on the back end. Toasted grains and leafy hops fade into the aftertaste, which trends dry. Light in body, with assertive carbonation that doesn't suit this style well; this is less of a problem later on in the session, but it's still quite watery. Very easy to toss back.
Final Grade: 3.43, a B-. 2³ Wee Wallop is mostly just wee, without any wallop - I can accept mild flavours in a mild ale, but the fizzy mouthfeel really detracts from the experience. Putting aside the notion that traditional English ales generally aren't heavily carbonated, the fizz also makes an already-thin beer seem even thinner. That being said, I enjoyed this session ale, but at $3.65 it's a bit of a hard sell - there are imported British ales available in Ontario that provide better value and quality. Give it a try and decide for yourself.
