Bought a crowler and poured into a tulip.
A: Pours a hazy, opaque copper orange, with a finger head that diminishes but doesn't disappear. Could easily be mistaken for an NEIPA, though it is very much not that.
S: It's muted, but the mandarin stands out moreso than the coconut, grapefruit, or hops.
T: Just delicious. Improves upon the regular Broconut. Yes, the backbone is a solid but not overbearing coconut, but then just behind that comes the citrus character. Unlike what the nose hints at, grapefruit is more present on the mouth than is orange. And toward the very back there is this dry sweetness, like just a hint of brown sugar or nutmeg.
M: Stings a bit like a good IPA should. Peppery, and goes down dry.
O: What impresses me the most about this beer is the restraint Southern Grist shows. With so much going on in terms of flavors, they could have easily made this one overbearing. But this is still very much an IPA, and the added flavors do not drown out the piney, floral, hoppy canvas. Just an overall winner.
