Poured into the SG 3rd Anny glass. Opaque dark brown with a thick tan head that lingered. Rich chocolate and cake batter aroma, with faint booze on closer inspection. The taste was even more rich. Multiple layers of chocolate and fudge, punctuated with subtle vanilla. Bitterness was provided in the form of dark chocolate flavors. A thick beer but not overly sweet. Not boozy. Decadent chocolate.

Not ones to wait around for their twenty-first birthday to enjoy a tasty, boozy beverage, the brewing team at Southern Grist set out on their third year to prove that you can have your cake and drink it too.
Thick, luscious and pouring like thatch, 3rd Anniversary Cake has a visual density that plays out on the eye like just that- cake batter. Its icing-like froth spills onto the nose with the luxurious chocolate scent of ganache, truffle, latte, vanilla and kahlua spice. The taste is no slouch. the first and creamy sip reaches far onto the tastebuds with chocolate, condensed milk, molasses and marshmallow for a punch of a flavor introduction.
Much of the same tone takes hold as the ale expands across the middle palate. A relaxing of sweetness allows for the roasted grains to bring an espresso earhtiness along with candied walnut, faint campfire and burnt cream spice. Vanilla and kahlua trail into a late palate that illuminates the bitter side of bittersweetness as the imperial stout pulls from the cake-like effects in the end.
Decadent, full and truly pastry-like, the malty sweet beer lingers on the finish just like you'd expect from true cake batter. A pep of tiramisu shows a delicate side of flavor that peaks through the stronger roast and malt sweetness while this gentle giant of an ale will have you asking for one more pour, over and over again.

I think people like this alot, its a touch to sweet for me. Aroma and flavor are straight chocolate cake. Tastes more like cake batter than a baked cake. overall its great but couldnt finish a whole bottle
