Hops: Citra, Barbe Rouge, Nelson

Triple dry hopped whatever that means. Never heard of Barbe Rouge hops but I looked it up and they're from France? Cool. Well, Citra and Nelson are fucking delicious and so is this beer. Bought a single can because they were selling this for $25/4 pack at my store. Craft beer is stupid. Stupid and good.

Poured into their 3rd Anniversary glass. A very hazy bright yellow color with a thick white head that lingered before slowly settling into a firm cap. The aroma featured the best of Nelson in my opinion - a fruity, white wine element accompanied by a dank, herbal resin to keep it interesting. Pineapple, strawberry, and mango were also there. The taste followed nicely. I detected the tropical flavors at first, with the herbal and Nelson notes joining a bit later. Bitterness was "soft" and typical for a NEIPA. No astringency or chalkiness. The bready malt was there but in the background. The Nelson was there for me on the finish with a dank, white wine character. Feel was soft with a relatively dry finish. Overall an outstanding beer worthy of the great celebration last week.

You know what they say, "Good things come in 'three's'". Southern Grist is feeling the trio of fortune for their third birthday, releasing an imperial New England styled IPA with the three headed monster of Nelson Sauvin, Barbe Rouge, & Citra hops and then triple dry hopped for extra measure.

In true hazy fashion, the tarnish pastel gold pour is yeasty and doughy even to the eye. Its creamy lather patiently pulls from the ale to bring a breadth of aromas that span citrus, berry, wine and herb in a strong citronella fashion. A creamy cereal flavor brings a sweet upstart of honeysuckle, cookie dough and shortcake in a unique birthday kind of way.

With the sweetness stewing on the middle palate, the hops unfold for a taste of slightly under ripened fruit of orange, lemon and white grapefruit before trending tropical with mango, apricot and pineapple-like. The tanginess of grape, rhubarb and cranberry steps in late as the ale turns to a smooth bitterness of cedar, sassafras and sun tea.

Medium bodied and remaining malty dry on the finish, an alcohol spice of curaƧao liquor and dry hemp become the trailing peppery resins that barely outlasts the linger of dough. Its flowery character floats away gently as the aftertaste resonates with juicy fruit and muddled citrus peels once more.

Poured from 16 oz can dated 2/20/2019.

A: Completely hazy pale yellow with smallish one finger dense white head that settles reasonably quickly leaving some moderate lacing. Looks like orange-pineapple juice.

S: Juicy citrus with pineapple, passion fruit, apricot, tangerine, and white grapes with hints of strawberries or raspberries.

T: Dank citrus with pineapple, passion fruit, tangerines combined with a bit of a white wine and an earthy undertone.

M: Medium body with average carbonation and a soft creamy mouthfeel.

O: Very easy drinking and well executed DIPA. Another excellent brew from Southern Grist and wishing them many more years of success.
