Poured cellar temp to a tulip glass. Menacing opaque brown body, with a pencil thin head that burns away completely. No lacing per se, but heavy drops that don’t move. This stout looks thick...we’ll see soon enough.
The nose is exactly as the bottle says: coffee, blueberry, vanilla. The first sips are exactly as the bottle says, plus some heavy, dark, chocolatey malts holding them all together. Mouthfeel matches the immobile droplets on the glass...thick, syrupy. There is balance among the vanilla/berry sweetness, coffee, and malts, but make no mistake, they are all very dominant and bold flavors. You won’t need a refined palate looking for nuances of anything. No alcohol burn, but there is a warming effect. Ten minutes after the glass is empty, I’m sweating.
This is easily a meal replacement, which is perfectly reasonable considering it’s an oatmeal stout.
Excellent beer, not for the faint of heart.
