Southern Grist needs to be more popular. Where's the adds? Yo.
16 oz can, dated Oct 1, 2020.
Into BIBCO Teku.

Pours a really dark silky black body with a creamy stable cap of 1 finger. Lace left behind as it gradually gradually recedes to a slim ring.

Smells like a mix between a York Peppermint Patty and an Andes. Fantastic dark chocolate/mint mixture. Virtually indistinguishable from an Andes.

Flavor is as expected - milk chocolate, semi-sweet dark chocolate, and mint -- but the finish is what really floors me. The finish is IDENTICAL to an Andes mint. It even has the cool minty burn. I can almost taste the steak dinner or pasta beforehand. This is really something. I know they tossed actual Andes mints in the brewing process, but to get it to translate and not ferment out...that's skill. Wow. The chocolate builds the more you drink it and actually balances well with the intense mint meteor on the finish.

Feel is where it ultimately could be improved - and also where I think all dark Southern Grist beers need improvement...it's far too light for the style. This one comes in a tick above medium bodied, more like a creamy porter than a 9% stout. It detracts from the experience big time, as everything else hits on a professional level. In a slew of world-class category ratings, it definitely stands out.

Overall, if you are in the mood for mint and chocolate, this beer will deliver verbatim. Absolutely what it describes - a liquid Andes mint, with those "cool" York notes as well. If you don't mind a slightly thinner stout, this is a home run. Has that cool burn like Scope. I absolutely enjoyed it. It's nearly like melting a whole bag of Andes and Yorks and drinking them.
