16 oz single can, major oversight here, dated 10/8/20...thought I was safe since it was brewed recently according to their site, did not expect a vintage can.
Chill hazed blonde with a tall creamy cap of 3 fingers, receding to 1 leaving lots of lace.
Aroma is surprisingly still somewhat fresh despite the age - this one seems to have some real long legs. Pine, sweet grass, pineapple juice, blueberry, and cracker malt.
Flavor is pleasantly west-coast, I mean shit, it's about as enjoyable as anything FROM the west coast that I've had that wasn't a total perfume bomb. Once again, real nice work here. Pleasant pine, field grass, some hints of grapefruit and blueberry, a little diesel. Nice pink grapefruit fluff on the finish. It honestly could be a Modern Times beer and I wouldn't know the difference.
Feel is solidly west coast as well. Not juicy in the slightest, rather gravelly, medium-high carbonation coming across pleasantly aggressive, with a nice drying finish. Almost no heat.
Overall, for a brewer that really specializes in hazy juice bombs, this west coast style IPA is amazingly on the nose. I'm really trying to find beers that I don't have to go back and buy 4 packs of, but I'm coming up short. I'm going to go effing broke! This thing even stays solid 5 months after the fact. I'm sold. Not only one but maybe two 4 packs coming home with me. Luckily the $12 price point is right on the effing money. I'm in love with Southern Grist.
Price paid : $3.49 / can
Would buy again : yup yup yup
