Breakfast Bar Java Coco Crunch
Southern Grist Brewing
Date: 14 April 2021
Let me change up the beer; hopefully, this one is better. I used a tulip glass and served it at 46 degrees. The pour created a light tan creamy head with above average retention. The dissipation left some lacing on the glass. The color of the beer charts around SRM 20, dark brown with slight mahogany hues. The beer is opaque, with nothing else showing.
The aromas in the beer are milk chocolate, coffee, cinnamon, vanilla, oats, dark roasted malts, nutty, caramel, toffee, and earthiness.
The flavors are coffee, milk chocolate, coffee, oats, nuts, toffee, dark roasted malts, caramel, earthiness, vanilla, and baking spices.
The mouthfeel of the beer is creamy and thick.
The body of the beer is medium-full, low carbonation, and long finish.
The milk stout is thick and tastes like a milk chocolate granola bar that has been out for a tad too long. I get some smokiness and Maillard on the back-end of the taste, making it unpleasant at times.

Heavy, dark body with a thin yet lasting light khaki head. Huge, beautiful aroma; light coffee, toasted almonds; cocoa; roasted grains. Outstanding flavors; milk chocolate, light coffee, vanilla, charred grains, coconut, nuts; dense sweetness with a slight undertone of bitterness. Heavy, oily body; rich and chewy; dense residual sugars coat the palate; dull yet prominently sweet mouthfeel.
This is an amazingly deep and complex milk stout. All the ingredients listed on the can are readily identifiable. A classic and thoroughly enjoyable big stout.
Poured at 60° F; bottom of can dating info: CANNED ON 04/14/21

Shimmering pitch black clean pour. Espresso and almond lead the various nose adjuncts, vanilla accents all, granola is the faintest by far. Tastes similarly with more coconut and semi-sweet chocolate. Coffee driven, but malt holds out. Reminds me of older coffee beers in how the coffee is allowed to star with accents. Would be a nice morning brew indeed

Canned 4/14/21; drank 5/24/21 @ the Yarchives.
Brown/black appearance.
A rough pour yielded a big, noisy tan head; thick, tree-rung lace.
Coconut, medium roast coffee bean, mild granola & faint chocolate notes in the nose.
Medium mouthfeel.
Coconut & medium roast coffee bean flavors up front; cream & faint granola notes on the finish.
Overall pretty good, but the mouthfeel was too thin to carry the heft of the flavors. Worth a try, at least.

Pours golden brown, with a healthy head of brown foam. Aromas of coconut and chocolate, with just a hint of "Is that vanilla?" to it. This is a pastry stout and does not disappoint. Flavors of a deeply rich and dense milk chocolate with light coffee and coconut swirl around the tongue. A medium to medium heavy bodied beer, quite sweet but balanced nicely with chocolate, vanilla, coconut and coffee. I recommend keeping this one cold, as when it warms, it loses a bit of character here. This is a delightful take on pastry stouts and a must for every fan of the style.
