16 oz can, dated 5/18/21, into Crooked Stave Willie.
Well, the appearance is a five. Perhaps a ten out of five. It's gorgeous. Saturated. Thick. Smoothie-like. Huge bubble gum pink head. Looks like black currant or boysenberry puree. Lots of lacing. Incredible.
Aroma is zippy acidic limey culture underneath a wave of dried black currants and slight other dark fruit, with hints of raspberry and blackberry. Vanilla can be sampled here too. Nice touch.
Flavor is a mixture of black currant and key lime. Wasn't expecting the key lime. Citrusy, green pixie-stix-esque, with raspberry notably absent. Traditionally the "double fruited" Hills have been more like a tame jam-packed fruit smoothie which I love but this has a bit of a push-pull sour-tart thing. It's very puckering as well. It makes for an extra sour Hill edition.
Feel is zippy, very puckering, carbonated, tannic, and drying towards the finish.
Overall, honestly this one was not for me. I was really surprised at the level of sourness of this particular Hill. It's not sweet at all and is more for folks who really love mouth-twisters. Generally I love the DF Hill beers but this one was too much Black Currant. Black Currant is definitely the star of the show here.
edit : 2nd can was noticeably better. Not really different from each other, but sweeter considering I was expecting sour. 65/35 split on sour/sweet.
