1-day old can poured into a Southern Grist 6th Anny tumbler as part of SG's various new releases for their 7th anniversary. One of my favorite SG hazies (Insert Juicy Pun) merged with an all-time classic hazy from Great Notion (Ripe)? Please and thank you!
Pale-yellow fluid with a heavy haze and a starchy look. Big, bold head of bright white bubbles initially. Latte cap with splotchy lacing down the glass. Creamy froth with a few swirls of the glass. Pure pineapple juice look with some added silkiness.
Massive nose of fruits and greens -- really awesome. Huge pineapple, orange, and lemon up front, followed by mango, guava, light berries, white grapes, and a mélange of additional citrus and tropical fruits. Nice weediness (not quite green onion) that's dank and green. Some bitter pith and sweet shortbread. Just a phenomenal nose.
Those same notes flow through nicely on the tongue, with the pineapple continuing to be pronounced. But here the berries and grapes shine through a little more, with some stone fruits making an appearance, as well. Juicy Fruit gum, dried mango, and candied fruit notes. There's a delicious note of fruit sweetness but it's not a sweet beer at all, and there's a healthy pith and bitterness that balances things out. The one negative is that this thing is green and starchy. Given that it was literally put in the can yesterday, I'm guessing that a few weeks will do this one a lot of good so I'm glad I have additional cans to tuck away for later. As is, I want to love the flavor profile but the starchy green bite is really pronounced and quite sharp. Could be world class if that mellows with time.
Silky smooth but fairly light in terms of feel. Proper carbonation, good coating, but zero stickiness or chewiness despite the creamy look.
Can't wait to try a 2- or 3-week-old can to see how things develops. Wonderful as is (the nose is next level) but it could be an all-timer.

Update 2 weeks later. Some extra time in the can definitely helped mellow out the sharp, starchy, green bite a little bit, revealing more of the fruit flavors on the tongue. But leaving my scores as is because the tongue is still a step down from the exceptional nose.
