2025 vintage, into a Living Waters 5oz glass.
Pours a deep black, very little foam or bubbles. Aroma is standard Batch One Theory, heavy on the milk chocolate, with good vanilla presence, but nothing popping out too much. Flavor is totally different. Chocolate covered oranges, rich milk chocolate, vanilla, and a surprising lack of sugars make this beer a supreme treat. The orange flavors feel less juicy and more preserved, which is fantastic, and make this beer feel like a proper effort rather than just a candy stout. There's a dry roasted peanut note on the back and which balances out all the cocoa and sugars, and a milt bitter roastiness that I enjoy a lot. The tangerine is incredibly forward and feels fresh but also jammy, like a newly opened jar of marmalade. Finish is sticky and quite sweet, there's a little coffee but mostly rich fudge and brownie batter. Feel is great, no carbonation and incredibly thick. Alcohol presence is nonexistant, it's all just sugary deliciousness.
Overall, I didn't know what I'd think about this beer, but I love it. Probably one of the most unique stouts I've had, between the intense chocolate and vanilla flavors amped up by the barrel aging and the introduction of incredible candied tangerine. It's weird, not as sweet as you'd expect, and altogether fantastic. Expensive but I think worth the price point as this may be my favorite adjunct stout of the year.
